Now for my take on the topic. Whew… If I were stuck on an island, I wouldn’t be there because I wanted to be. Okay, but if Chris Evans/Captain America said we’re going… I’d go. I’m not silly. That said, what would I invent? I hate to say it, but I’m not an engineering kind of girl. I try to put stuff together and tend to wound myself or it just doesn’t work. I don’t have that kind of brain. Want me to create a story? I’m there.

So what would I invent? Probably paper and something to write with. I’d have to keep myself occupied – that is if I’m alone on the island. ‘Cause…you know. If there’s someone else there, emblazoned with a red, white, and blue star… well, you know.

That’s what I’d invent. Something to write on and write with. What about you? What would you invent?

“So…” Milo sat opposite Cameron in the place Josh had occupied. “He’s cute.”
“He is.” Cameron stroked Winston’s head. “He’s nice, too.”
“Just nice?”
“I just met him.” Jesus. “Are you going to put the moves on him?”
Milo shook his head. “He’s a little thin for me.” He crossed his legs and arms. When he tipped his head, the pink streak in his hair caught the light. “He seems like a good fit for you, but if he’s got a brother, send the brother my way.”
“Milo?” He narrowed his eyes. According to Milo’s words, he wasn’t making a move, but Cameron wasn’t convinced.
“I’m serious. He’s all yours, but if he’s got a brother, I want to meet that guy.” He leaned forward. “Oh, and he paid for the coffee. Even said he liked what you’d ordered. He’s so weird.”
“Because ordering coffee without a bunch of craziness is weird.” Cameron rolled his eyes.
“Hey, when I’m making drinks that barely seem like coffee…yeah.” Milo unfolded himself and stood. “Don’t be such a stranger. I miss talking to you.”
Cameron stretched his legs, then left the sofa. “You do?”
“Yeah, you’ve always been the compass I needed. Without you, I would’ve dated that sexy bear in college. He turned out to be a good time, but not forever like I wanted.” Milo scratched Winston behind the ears. “See you tomorrow?”
“I’ve got a date, so maybe Saturday morning,” Cameron said. Winston jumped off the cushion and yawned. He ruffled the dog’s short fur. “Or Sunday if things go well.”
“Deal.” Milo waved. “Later.”
Cameron headed through the coffee shop and waved before he left. For one of the few times in his life, he trusted Milo. He swiped through his phone and stopped on Josh’s number. Josh McDowell. He clutched the device to his chest and grinned. Was he on the edge of something fantastic? He wasn’t sure, but whatever was happening…it felt good.

I’ve been thinking about the topic this week and I’ve kind of struggled. I like to travel, but I’m the type that likes to explore wherever it is I’ve gone to. What are the funky little bistros or quirky stores…or museums…that kind of thing.

But a world in a book I wouldn’t like to truly visit. Hmm…. I’d have to say going back in time to Outlander times. I’m probably too free spirited and headstrong for those times. I don’t think I’d like to go to outer space, either. The lands of Star Wars just don’t do it for me. Doesn’t mean it’s not for everyone. Just means it’s not for me. 🙂 I also doubt I’d be keen on a realm with robots that are so human-like that I’d get confused. For some reason, robots creep me out.

But those are my reasons. What about you? Where would you go? Where would you avoid?

Zelus placed his hands on the lid of the box. They couldn’t cover him. They couldn’t sell him. He was real. His heart hammered. This bastard couldn’t steal him or make money from him. No way.

Finally, he had his heart back. If he screamed, they’d know the curse had been broken, or at least they’d have him sent away from his guard. He’d have to bide his time and wait until someone opened the lid. He wasn’t sticking around for Gus to use him. Even if it took magic or begging his father, he’d get out of Gus’s clutches, then he’d find Camden.

He couldn’t believe his luck. He had finally found the person to break the curse, but now he was stuck in a crate, headed for a store’s window display.

What a time to not have his powers!

He’d wait. There wasn’t much else he could do. Zelus closed his eyes. Camden broke the spell once. With another kiss and a declaration of love, he could destroy the curse forever.

“Do you have some … clothing?” Kratos waved his hand in front of Andy. “Something like you have?”

“I’ve got a change of clothes in my car. I don’t know if they’ll fit you, but anything is better than running around nude.”

“Nude can be freeing.” If he had his way, he’d strip the odd clothing from Andy’s body and learn every bit of him.

“Freeing, but it can get you arrested. Public nudity is against the law on campus.” Andy grinned. “Give me a minute or two. My car’s in the back lot.”

“Car?”

“Ah—it’s like a chariot, but without the horses.”

“Interesting.” He had so much to learn. He’d been able to observe some things, but not enough to venture out on his own. Andy would be invaluable, and not just as a guide.

Andy picked up keys. “Stay here. I’ll be right back.” He hurried out of the room, leaving Kratos to his thoughts.

Kratos glanced around the room. The human race evolved so well. Tall windows opened the view to the other rooms in the building. A couple of other statues waited in the room. They weren’t the vessels for imprisoned deities. He touched the face of the female statue. He remembered seeing the work back in Athens. Praxiteles carved Aphrodite well and captured the very essence of her faint smile. He’d been vanguard to sculpt her without clothing. Then again, Aphrodite preferred to spend her time in the nude—usually with one of her many suitors.

He sighed and folded his arms. He missed the other gods and goddesses. What he didn’t miss was the water and the ship. The man who’d rescued him from the depths of the sea didn’t please him and couldn’t free him from the marble. He shuddered at the memory of the man’s hands on his body. Rough touches, fondling his ass while the man grunted and rubbed his own dick on Kratos’s thigh. His stomach churned. Was the rescuer the man who sent him? Couldn’t be. That man had to be dead by now. Then who was his owner? He wanted to think about better things—like Andy. He closed his eyes. A vision of Andy’s bright-blue eyes formed in Kratos’s mind. “Some people are great on paper but crap in real life. That’s what Kevin and I were…are.” She stared toward the ground. “Getting engaged to him was my biggest mistake. He’s a parent and I’m a teacher. Not a good mix. I thought we’d be able to overlook it. He couldn’t. I ended up giving ninety percent and he called his ten in. Sad.”

Adam wanted to pry. He wanted to know everything about the relationship and the break-up so that in case he and Melissa actually tried dating, he’d know what not to do. Instead of speaking, he stayed quiet and listened to the sound of their breathing.

“Look, the guy embarrassed the hell out of me and then acted like he was the jilted party, yet I took him back. No more. I don’t mind joshing among friends, but public embarrassment is not cool.” She finally looked up at him. Her eyes shimmered and the blush across her cheeks swept down her neck. “Gee, this is awkward. All this was supposed to make you feel better. I wasn’t supposed to ramble on.”

Adam reached out, hesitant to touch her. She was his friend and sounded like she needed consoling. What the hell. He snagged her in a hug and stroked her hair. “You helped more than you realize.” He stifled a chuckle. “Chasing Tessa was a pipe dream and I’ve been turning the situation over in my mind. I knew she wasn’t interested, but the game was too much fun to stop. She was my mystery girl—kind of.” He loved the way she felt in his embrace, so small and curvy. The more he talked about Tessa, the more he realized he wanted Melissa. “But now I’m confident it’s time to move on. I’m meant for something else besides chasing.”

Melissa rested her head on his shoulder and didn’t pull away from him. “Mystery isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be, but then again, neither is reality.”

This time he did chuckle. “I got a life lesson out of the experience.” Besides, holding Melissa cemented to him the fact that there was way more to life than chasing a mystery.

“What was the lesson? Don’t push people?” She tipped her head and stared up at him.

“Know your limits.” Adam rubbed her back. God knew the longer she lingered in his arms, the more likely he was to embarrass himself, but he didn’t care. He liked the way she cradled against him. “I’m guessing you could use that lesson, too? If Kevin isn’t working out, then don’t be afraid to cut him loose for good. You’ll feel better.” So would he. Melissa deserved better than Kevin, the pompous jerk.

“You’re right.” She still didn’t pull away. “We should really go back in.”

“Probably.” He wanted to kiss her. Was that pushing things too far?

“We should do this after school,” Melissa murmured.

He paused. Do what? Kiss? Hell, yeah, he wanted to kiss her. But he wasn’t sure if she was truly done with her boyfriend. She stared at him and he fought the urge to squirm. She wanted an answer. Adam nodded. “I’m game.” For running and so much more. The electricity between him and Melissa couldn’t be a fluke.

“I’ll hold you to that.” She wriggled from his grasp. A new sparkle lit in her eyes and she smiled again. Melissa poked him hard in the chest. “Catch me if you can.” She spun on her heel and sprinted away from him.

“You bet.” He started after her, his spirit renewed. “You certainly bet.”

This week the prompt involves the worst writing advice I’ve ever gotten. Actually, I’ve got two pearls of wisdom that were shared and aren’t all that great.

One involves reviews. “It’s your book. Defend that sucker and tell everyone who disagrees with you why they’re wrong or hurtful or whatever.” As you can imagine, arguing with reviewers, no matter how much you’re hurt or feel wronged or whatever, isn’t good. That’s their opinion. Even if there are spoilers, keep your mouth shut. I mean it. Seems silly, right? You should be able to defend yourself. Except you shouldn’t. Reviews aren’t meant to be your buddy. They’re an assessment of your work. It’s not like a math problem where there is one answer. What might be good for me, might be a trigger for you. That’s just how it is.

The other piece of advice involves social media. “You need to talk about yourself. You need to put yourself out there. If no one knows anything about you, then how will you have fans?” This might not seem like good writing advice because it doesn’t seem to have much to do with writing. That’s because it doesn’t. It’s about promotion. This one is subjective. You have to do what you’re comfy with. If you like to share, then share, but realize there are lots of people on social media that you don’t know and you can’t be certain they aren’t resharing or stealing. Just saying. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m a chatty person and I tend to share too much if we talk in person. What can I say? I’m chatty. But there are things I won’t share. Politics, my family photos, my dentist visits… arguments with anyone. It’s just not me. I want my readers to see me as a positive person. If you come to my page, it’s to have fun. That’s by choice. Plus, who really wants to see me with no makeup and my hair on end? God knows I don’t want to see me that way.

This week, the topic involves research. I’m a naughty girl. I love my research. I do. So this week, the topic is where do I go to research….whatever.

Well, it depends on what I’m researching or learning about. If I want to learn about teachers, I was one, so that helps. But I also go to my friends who happen to still be teachers. They’re great resources.

If I want to know about hairdressers, of course I look up information online, but I also go to my hairdresser and ask questions.

I’ve never written about an astrophysicist because I don’t really know what they do, but I’d go to the library first, then try to talk to someone in that field. But since I don’t have characters that are astrophysicists…I’m good.

But I have to add, I’m a biography junkie. I am. If there’s an old Hollywood biography, I’ve either read it, or I want to read it. Same goes for rock and roll biographies. I love them. So when I’ve written about rock stars, I’ve used those biographies as resources.
