Footsteps crunched on the dry grass. He glanced over his shoulder. He wasn’t sure why, but he’d expected to see his ex-boyfriend Mike. Maybe they weren’t good together, but Mike had a way of knowing when Denver was low. He focused on the person walking up to him.

This wasn’t Mike.

Recognition swept over him. He knew the man. Jett Dawson, Deiken’s partner.

Oh shit. The last time he’d spoken to Jett, they’d argued. Jett screamed at him and he’d called Jett an asshole. Back then, he hadn’t known the score and blamed Jett for his brother’s passing. Now he knew better.

The guilt came rushing back to Denver. He wasn’t sure what to say to his twin’s partner.

“Denver.” Jett stopped beside him.

“Jett.” He wanted to be cool and not lose his temper. Deiken’s actions were his own–not Jett’s fault. Besides, Denver had blown his chances at conversation in the past. How did he know now would be different?

“I miss him,” Jett said. He stuffed his hands into his board short’s pockets. “It’s not the same at the plant without him.”

“I bet.” He turned his attention to Jett, but didn’t really see him.

“I come here a lot. I must miss you, since this is the first time I’ve run into you in six months.” Jett sighed, then faced away from the grave. “Can–can we talk? Not exchange pleasantries, but really talk? Not here.”

Denver paused. This could end up therapeutic or really bad. They tended to argue, not talk. But still. If Jett needed someone, he’d try to be there. “I’ve got coffee at the house and it’s quiet. Or lemonade.” He’d always been attracted to Jett, but never said anything because of Deiken. Jett wanted his brother, not him. Then Deiken passed and the argument happened. He doubted once he and Jett talked that Jett would have much to do with him, but he’d give the conversation a shot.

“Coffee or lemonade sounds good.” Jett rocked on his feet. “Really good.”

“Want a minute alone with Deik? I can head to the farm and start the coffee.” Truth be told, he simply needed some separation from his brother’s partner.

“I’m good. I’ve talked to him so many times. Not just here. We talk at the office, the apartment and when I run.” Jett chuckled. “I bet he’s tired of hearing from me.”

“Nah. He loved you.” Denver knew that down to his soul. Deiken always discussed Jett and their life together. “You were his world.”

“Sometimes things aren’t what they seem.” Jett started away from Denver, then paused. “Let’s go to the farm. I know the way.”

“Sit.” He turned on his heel. As Tiger Lily dropped to her knees on the floor, Peter shielded Wendy from her gaze. Something clinked and words were whispered between them. Shadows moved across the floor as Wendy left the room.

Moments passed and seemed like hours while Tiger Lily waited. She wished she’d kept her mouth shut and her aggravation to herself.

“Okay.” Footsteps padded on the floor beside her. Peter’s boots came into view and he squatted in front of her. “Michael and John will be here later. You’re going to have to be patient. I understand you’re hurting. They’ve been gone a while and played with another sub the last time they were here. I get it. But what happened is between the three of you. You’re going to have to tell them what you want. Change the contract, write up a new one, I don’t care, but leave me out of it.”

“Sir.” Tiger Lily couldn’t keep the pain out of her voice.

“Yes?”

“I wanted you to choose me.” There. She’d said it. She loved Michael and John, but since they were younger she’d wished Peter would’ve chosen her over Wendy. Tiger Lily needed him. Didn’t she?

“Lily, my heart chose Wendy a long time ago. I’ve done things for her I never thought I’d do. I love Wendy.” He curled his fingers under her chin. “But John and Michael love you. They helped another Dom, yes, but they love you.”

“Then why don’t they tell me?” Tears streaked down her cheeks. She balled her fists. “I have no idea how they feel. I’m a toy to them, not a person.”

“Then ask them where you stand.” Peter stood and folded his arms. Wendy crept into the room and put her arm around Tiger Lily.

“Those two… sometimes you need to be specific with them. They think they know what’s going on. John’s so smart and Michael’s heart is so big, but they miss things. They love you, I’m sure, just as I’m certain you love them.” She brushed Tiger Lily’s hair from her face. “Make them earn your love.”

Sometimes she didn’t care for Wendy very much. Other times, Tiger Lily liked having another sub to get what she was going through. She knew her men, but now she truly understood them. Yes, they’d helped train another sub, but they still cared about her. Now she needed to show them exactly what she wanted, too.

One thing I hate is stickers. I hate when they get fur and hair stuck in them. I don’t know why, but I’ll avoid the hell out of them. It’s strange. I know.

I’m not wild about dead things, either. I have this fear they’ll jump up and chase me. I write about vampires and the undead, but I don’t want to have to deal with anything dead.

Shrugs.

This week’s post involves books we had to read in school that I liked. I have to admit, I don’t remember specific books we had to read. I remember one, but the others were ones I had to read but I picked them myself. That was the fun of being in the accelerated kids. We could select our own books.

So what do I remember reading and liking? For one, I remember reading Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt. I don’t remember much about the book now, but what I do recall was that I liked it so much at the time that when I found out they were going to toss the junk copies of the book (They gave us the copies to read and turn back in, so some were really torn up), I begged for one of the copies. I was rewarded for my determination and still have the book. 🙂

Another I had to read, but it was of my choosing, was Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. Now I read this in the sixth grade. Yep. I chose it and the teacher didn’t argue with me. All she said was if I could understand it, then I could read it. I didn’t get every nuance, but I understood it enough to write the report. In hindsight, I see the issues with the book, but I was what…12? I didn’t know better. I do now. Still, I did enjoy it. If you can accept it as fiction, but not how things really might have been, it’s easier to enjoy.

Another book I chose because I wanted to read it was one I got into trouble for reading. If you’ve read my other posts you might recall me mentioning getting detention for reading Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. Well, part of the punishment, since I wanted to read it, was that I had to do a report on it. Unfortunately for the teacher, it wasn’t punishment. I loved the book. HA!

One last book I remember being given the option to read and devouring, was Ryan White: My Own Story by Ryan White, Ann Marie Cunningham and Jeanne White. We were given the option to read it, but since he was a little older than me and (being an adolescent at the time), I thought he was cute. I read it and gained a better understanding of what AIDS is (it’s still a cause for me), what hemophilia is and how his life wasn’t easy, but he kept smiling. I cried at the end and it made me want to do something. I’m glad I read this book. Really.

What about you? What books have you read from school and loved them? I’d love to know. The TBR list is huge, but oh well. Books are love.

Talk about a great surprise. Sean picked up a second berry, then dragged it through the whipped cream. He licked the cream off the crimson strawberry but barely tasted the fruit. He focused his attention on the sight of Roxy, his fantasy girl, covered in food. Elias knew what Sean liked and how to come through in the clinch. Sean trailed his fingers down her leg. She shivered and stuffed her hands under her bottom. He couldn’t have imagined a better display for his birthday supper.

She curled her tongue around the cherry before pulling the fruit from the stem. Her brown eyes glittered and she moaned.

“So sexy.” He hooked his finger in the cake, then smeared frosting on her belly. The contrast of the perky blue frosting and her pale skin turned him on. He swiped his tongue through the sugary concoction, cleaning her up. His cock thickened and the blood rushed through his body. If they were in his bedroom, he’d do so much more with her. So much more.

“Don’t stop,” Roxy panted. She arched her back, offering herself to him. “Please?”

Oh hell yes, he’d take things further. He scooted to the head of the table and cupped her jaw in his hand. The sugary confection on his fingers smudged on her cheek. Time to tell her about their shared past and how much he wanted to give their future a try.

“You remembered,” she whispered.

“I couldn’t forget.” He kissed her again, this time taking total control of the connection. He tangled their tongues and learnt her taste. When she moaned, he slid one arm behind her neck. “I want to play with you. More than anything we could do at Push and so much hotter.”

Her chest heaved. “Play?” The corner of her mouth curled. “I’d love to be yours for the night.”
