The original post is over at Paranormal Romantics. You can find it right here:

http://paranormalromantics.blogspot.com/2016/09/getting-down-to-writing-after-break.html

There has been a lot of things going on in my life. Lately it seems like I can’t keep up with everything. I had surgery a little over two weeks ago and getting back up to speed afterwards is taking its toll on me. I thought I’d just bounce back. I’d be up and running after a few days.

Physically, I’m up and running. For the most part, I’m healed. It’s nice, since I’m a mom and keep up with the tot requires me to be on my toes.

But the writing part…that’s where I feel like I’m falling behind. I don’t have a huge schedule or a ton of deadlines set up for me. What I do have is a few deadlines set up for me. Now usually, I thrive on deadlines. I need that structure. I was that dork in school who loved to know ahead of time when everything was due and what was expected so I could get them done. On the writing front, I even worked myself hard to meet all of my deadlines ahead of time so I knew when I healed I wasn’t going to have stuff hanging over my head.

I had this crazy notion that while I was in the hospital, I’d write in my notebook. Yeah, that didn’t happen. When I could keep my eyes open, I wasn’t thinking about stories. Nope. I was thinking about going home and keeping something down.

Then I thought, I’m home, so I’ll get all of this writing done. I didn’t. I watched movies, slept a lot and read a couple of books. But writing? It wasn’t happening. I’d open the notebook or look at the laptop and lose not only interest but enthusiasm.

I hated it.

I’m back on the horse, so to speak. I’ve gotten words written and pages down. I’ve got two notebooks full of more words that need to go into the computer. It’s happening. Little by little. Baby steps.

What did I realize though as I healed was that I needed a break. It wasn’t that the words weren’t there. It wasn’t that I’d lost the touch. I needed a break. My body said, um, yeah. Time to heal.

I listened. I took those two weeks off. I didn’t force myself to write. I didn’t allow myself to feel guilty because I wasn’t writing. To my shock, it worked. I don’t make myself write just yet. If the words flow, I jump on the feeling. If they don’t…I find something else to do until they do.

What about you? Have you ever had this happen? Ever felt like you were falling behind or failing? Did you ever need a break? I’d love to know. We can commiserate.

His phone beeped and vibrated in his hand. He tensed at the sound. The noise came back. He should look at the screen. Should. His heart hammered, and the lion clawed at him from within. He turned his attention from the big cat to the phone. A gigantic arrow with Justin’s photo in it bounced back and forth on the screen. He touched the arrow and held his breath. Justin had replied.

Hi. Saw you, too. I’d like to talk. Tell me about you.

Holy shit. Excitement rippled through him. The lion stood at attention within him, equally thrilled. Zeus blew out the breath he’d held. What should he say? He didn’t want to sound silly.

I’m thirty-three. Single. I work @ a shelter. He paused. What else should he add? I’m looking for love.

He hit send before he could delete the words he’d typed. He probably sounded ridiculous. When Justin replied, Zeus yelped. He glanced over at Joe, who didn’t seem to have noticed.

Love, huh? Are you a romantic?

A romantic? More like a horny bastard who wanted sex that might become love. He drummed his fingers on the desk. Answering would be smart.

Justin replied first. Oh. You’re unsure? I’m a romantic. There’s someone out there for everyone, and I’m looking for my someone.

Damn. Justin was a romantic or, at least, came across that way. Maybe, the sweetness was a little much, but oh well. He’d never know if he didn’t try. Want to meet? You sound like my kind of guy.

He wasn’t sure if he sounded that way since he’d bulldozed right over the romance part, but he was trying.

Can’t. No wheels.

Well, shit. He needed to get closer to Justin, despite knowing the sexy man was probably wrong for him. He had a car but wasn’t licensed yet. How about a virtual date? Those were a thing, right? We can talk on the video thing on here.

I’d like that.

Zeus paused. Things were moving too well. Part of him trusted Justin was being honest. The rest of him wasn’t even sure Justin wasn’t a farce. Are you real? Like not a fake profile or a bot or something? Is that even your actual picture?

That’s really me, lol. I’m wondering the same thing about you. You look like a comic book hero come to life.

He’d never heard that. Was Justin’s comment a good thing or bad? I’m real, too. I had my friend Markas show me how to take selfies. That photo is all me.

Markas? Justin replied. Your boyfriend?

No. My friend John’s husband. He refused to call Markas John’s “huslion”, despite John and Markas creating the term. The word sounded awkward to him. Besides, he didn’t want to scare off Justin. What if shifters freaked him out?

I got it. You’re in a commune?

A what? He’d never heard that word before. Markas and John referred to Sanctuary as a home for wayward shifters or a shelter. Not a commune. Were those terms nicer ways of saying a commune? He’d have to ask John or Joe later.

Do you have a web cam? You mentioned a virtual date. Why don’t we video chat?

“Kind of. It’s nice to see you close up, rather than running past you at full blast.” He brushed his nose along Bobby’s cheek. “I’ve been dying to talk to you since I first saw you.”

“I don’t bite.” Bobby turned Remy around until he faced the fence, then eased behind him. He wrapped both arms around Remy’s waist and rested his chin on Remy’s shoulder. His breath tickled Remy’s ear. “No, I do bite, but only if you want me to.”

Remy groaned. When Bobby spoke, he rubbed the bulge in his jeans along Remy’s ass. The man packed the goods, and Remy wanted to unwrap his present. He threaded his fingers around Bobby’s and ground his butt into Bobby’s groin. Hell, yes, he wanted that dick in his hole tonight.

“You don’t hold back, do you?” Bobby asked. He nipped Remy’s earlobe. “Want me that much?”

“Uh-huh.” He’d rather skip out on the fireworks and make some of their own. “My car’s not too far away.”

“Neither is mine.” He scraped his teeth along the side of Remy’s neck. “You taste as good as you look.”

He paused. He looked good? “Nah.” He knew better. “I’m no one special.”

“Right.” Bobby groaned. “Don’t want to fuck in the car.”

“Me, either.” He managed to turn around in Bobby’s embrace. “My apartment isn’t far away.”

“I’ll follow you.” Bobby let go of Remy long enough to grasp his hand, then made his way across the lot to the cars. “Where am I going?”

“The Deer Crossing apartments. I’m in the strip of apartments facing away from the road.” He stopped at his car. “This is mine.”

“Nice.” Fire lit in Bobby’s eyes. He pinned Remy to the back bumper of the vehicle and mashed his mouth down on Remy’s. When Remy gasped, Bobby swallowed the sound.

Remy draped his arms around Bobby’s neck. Things had moved rather fast, but he didn’t regret a moment. He liked men with the in-charge look like Bobby wore, and he couldn’t wait to get to the apartment. Hell, he couldn’t believe a handsome man like Bobby was even there with him, much less kissing him in public.

Bobby broke the kiss and rested his forehead against Remy’s. “You’re deep in thought. Either I’m a shitty kisser or I’m not keeping your attention.”

“You’re all I’m thinking about,” he confessed. “I’m not sure why you picked me, but I love it.”

“You’re hard on yourself.” Bobby released his grasp on Remy. “You should stop. You’re creasing your brow too much.”

He rubbed the patch of skin between his eyebrows. Sure enough, he’d etched worry lines there. “Sorry.”

“Take me home, handsome.” Bobby swatted Remy’s hip, then started away. “I’m following you.”

“Good deal.” He managed to climb behind the wheel of his car but didn’t turn on the engine right away. He needed another moment to think. Bobby, the man he’d fantasized about, was following him home. Fucking hell yeah. He backed out of the parking spot and headed out of the lot. He glanced in his mirror. Sure enough, Bobby, in a black sedan, was behind him. His hands shook as he drove the eight blocks to his apartment complex. He stopped in his allotted spot, then waited for Bobby to park.

“I looked at these apartments, but there wasn’t one available.” Bobby joined Remy by his car. “Nice, though.” He slipped his hand into Remy’s pocket. “What’s this?” He pulled out the notebook.

“I’m a journalist.” He reached for the notebook but didn’t fight Bobby. “I write for The Cedarwood Tribune. I’m supposed to do a piece on the festival, along with a few softball games and other sports.”

“You’re into sports?” Bobby handed over the notebook.

“Not really, but it meant keeping my job, so I’m sucking it up.”

“I like suck-ups.” Bobby dropped his voice an octave. “Do you?”

“Uh-huh.” He nodded to the path. “I’m up here.” He started away from the lot, but Bobby grabbed his hand.

“I like to walk with my date.” Bobby threw his arm around Remy’s shoulders again. “I’m a touchy kind of guy.”

His date…wowza.

Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Week 3

d1b90-monday2bmorning2bquarterback2bposter

The Bengals bungled it against the Broncos, but it happens. It’s also part of being a Bengals fan. We either do really well… or we stink. At least it wasn’t a total drubbing. To cheer me up, let’s get to the funnies.

There are Honorable Mentions from last week–like always–so…here we go…

“A large man.”

He’s been working out. Nice.

“Two of the nightmares.”

If he’s a big dude, then he  might be a nightmare.

“He’s got good blocking out front.”

He’s a big dude–he should have good blocking.

Okay, time for the Quotes of the Week. These are a real rip. Always!

“Swing it out to them.”

Being big, he should swing.

 “A very talented receiver.”

Better than be a slouch at the job.

“Opening a big hole there.”

That’s the talent.

“Big mitts on it”

He wants to make sure his lover feels him back there.

“He picks the right holes.”

Because the wrong ones will leave lasting consequences.

And now for the Doozy of the Week. Oh my…

This one is all kinds of wrong. Just all kinds.

“Very powerful plunging it in up the middle.”

It’s not the length, it’s the powerful plunging. Gotcha.

Thanks for reading and please check out the other posts from the rest of the week.

Enjoy!

Breaking down was never this freeing.

Rory Speedle charms the world and rocks the stage with his band, Disaster Transport. He’s dealt with ex-girlfriends, overzealous fans and letters from a stalker, but nothing has prepared him for his next concert date. When the tour bus catches fire on the outskirts of Dallas, he loses more than just his instruments. His desire to create music is gone and he believes his hope is next. Then he meets Cady Hollister and everything changes. She inspires him and stokes his desire.

Cady knows the handsome rock and roller won’t be in town long. He’s only at her hotel until the band bus is replaced. Still, he makes her feel like a woman again—sexy, desirable and beautiful. He claims he wants her in his life as more than a passing fancy. Can he convince her to five him a try or will his fame keep them from finding the love they both deserve?

Love could be his salvation, if he’s willing to work for the woman he wants.

Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Week 2

d1b90-monday2bmorning2bquarterback2bposter

I’m late on this week’s post because I was in the hospital. I’m better now, but I felt like I’d been run over by a truck, so posting was the last thing on my mind. But to make the time pass, I did watch my football. Unfortunately, my Bengals made me cry, but it happens. Now onto something better. 🙂

There are Honorable Mentions from last week–like always–so…here we go…

“Gets a little angle….with the big hole…beautifully done.”

He knows what he wants.

“He’s a devastating weapon.”

He’s also got legs and he knows how to use ’em.

Okay, time for the Quotes of the Week. These are a real rip. Always!

“Watch his release point. Amazing.”

So focused!

 “Very creative stuff tonight.”

Well, yeah. He’s got his release point working for him.

And now for the Doozy of the Week. Oh my…

This one is all kinds of wrong. Just all kinds.

“He’s the little receiver.”

Okay…small but mighty. Nice.

Thanks for reading and please check out the other posts from the rest of the week.

Enjoy!

Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Week 1

d1b90-monday2bmorning2bquarterback2bposter

Monday morning and it’s time to talk football. Yay!! Football is back! I’m stoked. I’m also full of quotes. Life is good.

There are Honorable Mentions from last week–like always–so…here we go…

“Very athletic.”

He’s been working out. Nice.

“Keep on pounding ’em.”

If he’s athletic, then it won’t be a problem.

“250 pound back who found a way to knife it in.”

Because he’s athletic.

“A much more stout front.”

Nice. He’s athletic and stout and he gets the job done.

Okay, time for the Quotes of the Week. These are a real rip. Always!

“Big bodies with lots of strength.”

And all of those muscles!

“That’s where their power and expertise are–in the double team”

It’s also why they get paid the most.

“Gets a little angle…with the big hole…beautifully done.”

That’s the double team at work.

“Watch his release point.”

He gets some major distance.

“Very creative stuff tonight.”

He went for girth and distance. They don’t call him creative for nothing.

And now for the Doozy of the Week. Oh my…

This one is all kinds of wrong. Just all kinds.

“He’s not a huge guy–but he’s accurate.”

See? He’s so great with that creativity. He gets the job done.

Thanks for reading and please check out the other posts from the rest of the week.

Enjoy!
