And now for that spooky Snog!!

Kendall cupped her jaw in both hands. Hunger shone amongst the green and blue flecks in his eyes. He worked the muscle in his jaw and the light caught the subtle colour changes of brown and gold in the scruff on his cheeks. She gulped to catch the breath she didn’t need. No heartbeat anymore meant that oxygen didn’t help her body like it had when she’d been alive.

God, she wanted to be amongst the living and for things to be normal again.

“Would you rather I be blunt?” He kissed the tip of her nose. “I want you. I don’t care if you’re a vampire or if you have those two guys who hang out over here. You infiltrate my thoughts and make me think about you when you’re not in the same room.”

“Me?” Embarrassment gripped her. Back when she’d been alive, she wouldn’t have doubted a man’s attraction to her. She’d have known it and have run with the feeling of being desired. Since dying, she’d lost her confidence. Men looked at her, sure, but not in the same way.

“Yes, you.” His pupils dilated and Kendall rested his forehead on hers. “I don’t see a vampire. I see a sexy woman that I want to make my own.”

Gypsy closed her eyes and melted into his touch as his mouth met hers. He swept his tongue over the seam of her lips and she opened to him. She suckled on him. Heat burned through her veins and she ground her hips against his thigh.

He curled one arm around her shoulders while the other arm snaked around her waist. Kendall lifted her from the floor. She wrapped her legs around his waist, not bothering to break the kiss.

Mint, he tasted like mint. She broke the connection to keep from scratching him with her teeth. Hunger pangs racked her body. Just one tiny cut, just enough to sate her appetite…

Kendall carried her into her bedroom and collapsed onto the bed with her on top. Gypsy closed her mouth to keep from displaying her fangs. She whimpered.

“You need to bite me, don’t you?”

She shook her head. Taking his blood would enhance sex, yes, but she didn’t need to. She raked her nails down his chest, taking extra time to flick his nipples.

“Feels good.” He arched beneath her. “Touch me.”

Gypsy grabbed the hem of his T-shirt and pulled. Instead of moving the shirt up his chest, she tore it in half. The sound of tearing fabric split the air, followed by his laughter.

“Never had that happen during foreplay.” Kendall sat up with her still on his lap, and removed the torn clothing. “Your turn.” He eased her sloppy shirt up over her head.

Gypsy covered her breasts with her arms. A wave of humility swept over her. Would she make him happy? What a time to second guess herself…

“Show me, babe.” Kendall tugged her hands away, putting her on display. He palmed her breasts. The warmth of his touch filled her soul.

She moaned and leaned into him. Things made so much sense and none at all. Gypsy shook off the apprehension. She needed to feel, to be wanted and to hear a heartbeat.

Her nerve endings sizzled as he flattened his tongue over her nipple. He scraped his teeth over the engorged flesh and bit. Sparks shot from her breast to her pussy. Gypsy dug her nails into his shoulders. Holy hell, he knew how to use his tongue. Kendall gave her other nipple the same treatment. She shuddered in his arms.

The sweet scent of flowers swirled around them. Her fangs dropped and a voice whispered in her ear.

Mate.

“I deserve another.”

“You do?” He didn’t give Ty a chance to think about it. Instead, be brought his hand down on Ty’s ass, sprinkling Ty with spankings on both cheeks. His skin burned red and Ty tensed with each attack.

“Oh God, Sir. Yes. Thank you.” He balled his hands. “More.”

“Not yet.” Leo smoothed his palm over Ty’s ass once again.

Perspiration shimmered on Ty’s back. Leo kissed Ty’s shoulder. He needed more connection with Ty. Love bubbled in his heart, and power radiated through him. He might be dominating Ty, but Ty held Leo’s soul in both hands.

“Thank you, Sir.” Ty shivered.

“I’m not done.”

Six months of waiting in hiding hadn’t eased her mind. Living in the gated community helped, but if someone wanted her dead, it would happen. Gates and armed guards didn’t stand a chance against a machine gun or whatever served as Morales’ weapon of choice. He wanted her to keep quiet, no matter what.

No toys or quickies with Quint would erase her pain. “Catch him so it’s all over.” Emma blinked back tears of frustration. “I want my life back.”

She touched the picture of Sam on the counter. Her heart squeezed in her chest. He didn’t have to go to the lengths he’d gone to for her. I won’t risk losing you. She sighed. What if she lost him in the process?

“I miss him, too.” Quint placed his hand on hers.

Emma bumped shoulders with him and wiped her cheeks. “I know. I’m glad you’re here. I’d be stir crazy alone.”

“Won’t be long, now.” He kissed her temple. “Promise.”

The words failed to comfort her. “If I’m not safe in the Leatherwoods, I’m not safe anywhere. Do you hear that, Quint? I’m done.” She shoved the newspaper into the recycle bin and headed to the refrigerator. Emma withdrew a half-empty bottle of rose wine. “If I want to sip a glass of wine on my balcony, then by God, I should be able to.” She nodded to herself and poured a generous amount into a wine goblet. “You can watch for all I care. I want to have a normal life again.”

She balanced the wine glass in her fingers and picked up a lighter for the citronella candles and her book from the table. She shoved the lighter in her back pocket and stuck her book under her free arm. Emma crossed the room and stepped through the sliding doors. The potted pansies fluttered in the slight wind. She dropped the book on the lounger and left the wine glass on the ground beside the chair.

“Seems like a nice time to take in some afternoon sun.” Shielding her eyes with her hand, she glanced around at the neighboring terraces. For a humid late July afternoon, no one seemed to be home and that suited her fine. “Looks like we’re alone, anyway.”

“You try my patience,” Quint growled. He plopped down onto the balcony railing. “Anyone with a good shot could take your ass out right now. Why are you chancing it?”

“I’m not chancing anything with you standing there ready to take the bullet,” Emma snorted. Six months of having someone watching her managed to kill her modesty. Sure, time spent in her bedroom meant time alone. Anywhere else in the apartment gave Quint ample view of what she did. Most of the time his presence didn’t bother her. He was Sam’s best friend. They shared everything—except her. So she enjoyed strolling to the kitchenette every once in a while in the nude? Quint, being the consummate good guy with a foul mouth, never acted on impulse. Sam alluded to wanting a threesome with her and Quint. Based on Quint’s reactions, she doubted the event would happen—the talk needed to evolve into action.

Whatever.

“I’m going to immerse myself in a book.”

Long distance relationships are never easy, especially at Christmas time. But if Raylan and Chase can learn to trust each other and believe in the power of love, they’ll not only get their Christmas wish this year, but for all the Christmases to come!

Raylan believed himself unworthy of love until he met Chase. Chase brought out Raylan’s natural need to control and the power to force submission. But time and distance make having a relationship hard. Can Raylan prove to Chase they have what it takes for love to last through this Christmas and every other Christmas for the rest of their lives?

Chase found the muse for his songs in Raylan. Each time they touch, kiss, make love, music fills his soul. But working odd gigs to make ends meet while Raylan photographs rock and roll royalty isn’t beneficial to Chase’s creativity. Can he convince Raylan they’re better off together than apart?

Chase folded his arms. The tree wasn’t exactly full or decorated very well. A professional would more than likely faint if they saw the crinkled limbs and snarled needles on the second-hand tree. The sad strand of twinkle lights engulfed the two-foot fake pine. The star caused the tree to bow to the right, and the two ornaments didn’t fit on the miniscule branches. Adding candy canes would probably send it the rest of the way over. He cocked his head.

“Raylan?” Raylan eased up behind him, wrapping his arms around Chase and nudging Chase’s ass with his cock. “It’s cute. Not quite what’s expected and a little lopsided, but who needs stale perfection when originality is so much better? I love it. Besides, our originality could be the next big thing in holiday décor. You never know.”

“I don’t know if I want to share.” Chase rested his head on Raylan’s shoulder. “I’ve missed you.”

“Mmm,” Raylan murmured and licked a path of fire along Chase’s neck. “I couldn’t wait to get home. Christmas isn’t any fun alone.”

Groaning, Chase ground his ass into Raylan’s erection. His loins ached. He needed to feel Raylan’s tenderly tough touch. As punishment? Not in the truest sense. He needed to feel wanted and sexy. He turned around in Raylan’s embrace and worked the row of buttons bisecting Raylan’s dress shirt.

“Let me take care of you.” Chase sank to his knees and stared up at Raylan. “Let me remind you what’s here at home.” Chase folded his hands behind his back, waiting for Raylan’s permission to take the initiative. When he felt the touch of a warm hand on his head, Chase took a deep breath, drawing in Raylan’s scent as he kissed Raylan’s cock through his jeans. The motion felt dirty and out of his element and completely sexy. “Merry Christmas to me,” he groaned and flicked his tongue over the blunt end of Raylan’s prick.

“Oh Chase.” Raylan forked his fingers into Chase’s short hair, tugging the strands. He moaned, and his hips bucked. Almost as soon as the action started, Raylan stopped. “Stop.”

Chase froze. Stop? Huh? He didn’t look up at Raylan, rather he stared at Raylan’s jean-clad cock. A shiver cut right through him. Something…something wasn’t right.

Raylan tugged Chase’s head back gently and forced Chase to look him in the eye. The pregnant pause as Raylan considered Chase took the breath from Chase’s chest. Fire flickered in Raylan’s eyes.

“Naked. Now.”

Footsteps crunched on the dry grass. He glanced over his shoulder. He wasn’t sure why, but he’d expected to see his ex-boyfriend Mike. Maybe they weren’t good together, but Mike had a way of knowing when Denver was low. He focused on the person walking up to him.

This wasn’t Mike.

Recognition swept over him. He knew the man. Jett Dawson, Deiken’s partner.

Oh shit. The last time he’d spoken to Jett, they’d argued. Jett screamed at him and he’d called Jett an asshole. Back then, he hadn’t known the score and blamed Jett for his brother’s passing. Now he knew better.

The guilt came rushing back to Denver. He wasn’t sure what to say to his twin’s partner.

“Denver.” Jett stopped beside him.

“Jett.” He wanted to be cool and not lose his temper. Deiken’s actions were his own–not Jett’s fault. Besides, Denver had blown his chances at conversation in the past. How did he know now would be different?

“I miss him,” Jett said. He stuffed his hands into his board short’s pockets. “It’s not the same at the plant without him.”

“I bet.” He turned his attention to Jett, but didn’t really see him.

“I come here a lot. I must miss you, since this is the first time I’ve run into you in six months.” Jett sighed, then faced away from the grave. “Can–can we talk? Not exchange pleasantries, but really talk? Not here.”

Denver paused. This could end up therapeutic or really bad. They tended to argue, not talk. But still. If Jett needed someone, he’d try to be there. “I’ve got coffee at the house and it’s quiet. Or lemonade.” He’d always been attracted to Jett, but never said anything because of Deiken. Jett wanted his brother, not him. Then Deiken passed and the argument happened. He doubted once he and Jett talked that Jett would have much to do with him, but he’d give the conversation a shot.

“Coffee or lemonade sounds good.” Jett rocked on his feet. “Really good.”

“Want a minute alone with Deik? I can head to the farm and start the coffee.” Truth be told, he simply needed some separation from his brother’s partner.

“I’m good. I’ve talked to him so many times. Not just here. We talk at the office, the apartment and when I run.” Jett chuckled. “I bet he’s tired of hearing from me.”

“Nah. He loved you.” Denver knew that down to his soul. Deiken always discussed Jett and their life together. “You were his world.”

“Sometimes things aren’t what they seem.” Jett started away from Denver, then paused. “Let’s go to the farm. I know the way.”

Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Week 7

d1b90-monday2bmorning2bquarterback2bposter

We still stink, but the Bengals looked a whole lot better this week. They almost looked like the team they were last year. Almost. A win is still a win. I’m running with it. Since it’s that time…let’s get to the funnies.

There are Honorable Mentions from last week–like always–so…here we go…

“it doesn’t look like two.”

What does it look like then?

“they way they got stuffed on third and one…wow.”

Maybe that’s why it was hard to tell if it was two… or three.

“Able to deliver a good ball under duress.”

If it’s two on one and he’s uncomfy, then this is even more impressive. I hope he wanted the two on one.

Okay, time for the Quotes of the Week. These are a real rip. Always!

“they’ve not been able to take it home tonight.”

Maybe they didn’t want to go home?

“gave it a little shake and got it open.”

Usually it takes fingers to do that…not shaking.

“stuffing it in quickly.”

I guess that’s what to do now that it’s open.

“hit that hole hard.”

Are you sure? Or did they ask for that? Seems questionable.

“could not get it done.”

I’m thinking there’s a story here. He pushed too hard, was rebuked and that’s the end of that. What do you think?

And now for the Doozy of the Week. Oh my…

This one is all kinds of wrong. Just all kinds.

“down to the ground, back up again and he got the sack.”

He’s got persistence and someone has an impressive sack. Just sayin’.

Thanks for reading and please check out the other posts from the rest of the week.

Enjoy!

Rory stood in front of the door of room four and eased the key into the lock. The knob didn’t turn. Maybe it was sticky. He tried again, but with no luck. He rested his head against the door and sighed. Shit. He yanked the key free. He’d have to go back downstairs.

“There you are.” The woman from the foyer rushed up to him. “Matt gave you the wrong key. Sorry. He mixed up the one for room five with four. No idea why or how, but here you go.” She brushed her hair from her face and eased the new key into the lock. “We could probably get card readers for the doors, but I can’t afford all of that tech right now.” She twisted the knob and opened the door. “There you go.”

“Thanks.” He headed into the room. Everything was white. White walls, white bedding, white desk and lamp, white couch. “It’s very clean in here.”

“Yeah, sorry. My grandmother liked white.” The girl shrugged. “It’s all vintage, so I can’t see getting rid of the furniture. Except the mattress. It’s new.” She massaged her temples. “Sorry. I get ahead of myself and don’t always say the right thing.”

“It’s fine.” He flopped onto the bed and breathed in the clean scent of the detergent. “I could sleep for a week.”

“Put the hang tag on the door if you don’t want to be disturbed. We don’t have food here, but the Chinese restaurant at the north end of the block delivers and the pizza place next door is good, too. We’ve got the pool on the ground floor and a lounge on the second floor. It’s not stocked right now, since I haven’t had guests in a while, but you’re free to go in there. We’ve got the piano and a stage.”

“A piano?” He rolled over and focused on her. In the better light, he saw her more of her features. He sat up. She stood no more than five-five and probably came up to his shoulder at best. The blue scarf he’d seen wasn’t a scarf, but rather a bright blue swath of her hair. Her blue eyes sparkled from behind dark rimmed glasses. He swept his gaze down her body. She wasn’t like any of the women he dated. Where she was short and buxom, his dates tended to be willowy and tall. The jeans hugged her curves and her tank top strained against her breasts. His mouth watered. He wasn’t one to fall in love at first sight, but she captivated him almost as much as the architecture.

“I’m Cady, by the way. If you call down to the desk, you’ll probably get me.”

When the Story Gets Under Your Skin with @WendiZwaduk #reading #books #randomthoughts

This may seem like a book review type of post. It’s not. I’m not giving my suggestions onCheck it Out Banner what to read or how to read them. Nope.

This is my experience while reading.

Sounds odd, eh? Maybe. I like a story that grips me. One that makes me not want to put the book down…or the kindle down. Most often, I find those stories. I like to think I’m lucky, but it could be I’m savvy about what I want to read. I’m by no means a book snob. I’m willing to read a wide range of books. My favorite genres are music history, biographies and autobiographies, history, legal thrillers and romance – the hotter the better. Gotta read in the genre you write in, right? I think so.

Anyway, I happened to be reading this book for my book club and it’s not a story I’d have picked up. It was contemporary fiction. This wasn’t an easy read. That doesn’t mean it was bad. It just wasn’t a breezy type of story. I had to go back and reread more than a few times. But that’s not what this post is about.

The post is about the uncomfortableness of reading. I bet you’re wondering what I mean. I’m the type of reader who doesn’t mind if the hero dies (unless I’m very invested in him), but don’t you dare kill off/do a mischief to the dog/cat/cow/pet/etc. I don’t want to read about dead animals or dead little kids. Sorry. Those are my definite nos. I have a couple of other squick points (Things I won’t read), but those are the biggies.

So onto the book I just read. There were two squick points – one involving germs and things going in the mouth that shouldn’t and one involving nursing. I don’t mean the profession. I mean the act of feeding one’s young. Like I said, it made me uncomfortable. I understand why these devices were used to tell the story and on one hand, I could buy in. On the other, it was too gross IMHO. I kept having to stop and go back.

That said, the squick points stuck with me. I remember the story like I just read it. Of course I did just read it, but I not only got emotionally involved in the book and can’t get those moments out of my head.

Then there’s another book…this one was so gripping and vivid it felt real. Like a dream that wasn’t quite a dream. You know those… the dream is so realistic that you’re not sure if it was real when you wake up, but you KNOW you were dreaming? That was this other book. Two really. I got so emotionally involved in them and could’ve sworn I was one of the players. Okay, I know they were just books, but when you actually dream about a story that’s not yours…that’s heavy stuff.

Is this normal? Have you ever had that? Something was so disturbing that it stuck around in your mind? Or you got so emotionally involved in the book that it felt real? I’d love to know about. Tell me! I’m waiting.
