Authors Dish: Megan Slayer’s Favorite Hero @meganslayer #meganslayer

QUESTION: Of your published titles to date, which hero is your favorite and why?

Megan Slayer said:
I’ve written many stories and deciding which hero is my favorite is hard. I mean, really hard. I want to say I love them all, but are there a few that stand out? Yes, there are.

One of my favorites has to be Brandon, from Seeing You AgainHis Valentine, and Sparkling New Year. He’s flawed. He’s an artist with depression issues and he’s not always understood. Another thing that’s a little different about him is initially, he doesn’t know how to deal with his depression. He mislabels it as just being moody. I like him because he’s relatable. There are a lot of people who suffer with depression and don’t always know that’s what the problem might be. There are some who think they’re just artsy and don’t understand there’s more going on. I liked that he was willing to work on himself and find answers. I also liked that he could be so bare and raw with Aydin.

Another hero I love has to be Mason, from Resisting the Rock Star. He’s a rock and roll god who happens to have a son. Now that’s not so remarkable, but I like him because he’s a parent. But in his case, he didn’t know he was a parent until his son was almost eighteen. I like how he threw himself into parenting and trying to be the father his son needed, even if he hadn’t been there for a long time. I also like Mason’s bickering with his parents. Not the ‘I don’t like you’ kind of bickering, but the ‘your girlfriend, no matter who she is, will never be good enough for you’ kind of arguments. It’s something many people go through. I know I have. I like him for his flaws—not knowing about his kid and being on the road so much—but for his good qualities—wanting the best for his son, wanting the best in his relationships and still making music.

What about you? Who do you consider my best hero? I’d love to know.

Book Blast ~ THE SWEETEST OCTOBER by @MeganSlayer #contemporary #sweet #halloween #romance #meganslayer

I’m taking my book, The Sweetest October on tour. I’d love it if you’d come along. This is a departure for me, since it’s a sweet romance. Check it out! I will be awarding a prize pack featuring a necklace made by the author and a signed swag pack to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

Love and Halloween are an odd couple, but they can be the best means to heal a broken heart.

Allison Prince never planned on leaving her job with the Waite Gazette, but when the chance to discover her past comes along, she can’t say no. She’s determined to learn about her grandmother and make the advice in her column more relatable. With her rescue dog, Woofy, beside her, she sets out to learn as much as she can about Hallowsville, Ohio.

Erik Greene doesn’t believe in love and isn’t fond of Halloween. He’s convinced his broken heart won’t heal—until he meets Allison and visits the local animal shelter. He doesn’t want a journalist snooping around Hallowsville. But Allison isn’t all she seems and the pup at the shelter proves love is possible.

Can he open his heart to new opportunities and chase the love of his life? Or is he destined to be the Dandy Devil of Hallowsville all alone?

Thank you to Goddess Fish Promotions for creating this tour. You can find out more about GFP and the tour right here: http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2018/10/book-blast-sweetest-october-by-megan.html

CTR Authors Dish: September 2018: Favorite Heroine @meganslayer #meganslayer #goddessesafterdark

Coffee Time Romance asked: of my published titles to date, which heroine is my favorite AriadnesVampireand why?

My favorite heroine has to be my goddess, Ariadne. I love characters that are survivors. I don’t know what you know about Ariadne, but this poor girl has been through a lot.

First she helps a man and gets him to safety from not only her father, but a beast. In return, the man leaves her on an island. Nice, eh? Then she is spotted by another man, who saves her, but because he’s got another woman in his life…he ends up sending Ariadne to the underworld. Oh, and he’s got a drinking problem. So she’s been left twice and is in hell. But she’s not done.

That’s what I love about her. She doesn’t give up. She’s scared, but she’s not going down without a fight. She gets out of hell, but she has to run. Her ex isn’t done with her. I mean, how do you move forward from that? I don’t know how, but she does. I love that she’s fearful—like many people would be—but she doesn’t quit. She runs to find freedom. She can hold her own and won’t back down from a fight. She’s got a sharp tongue and when faced with the man who could be her future…she’s not ready to jump right into bed with him. So this woman who has run away from a man with a drinking problem who cast her to hell, who would she possibly run to?

A creature of the night. A creature from hell. A vampire.

Does this stop her? I said, she’s tough and headstrong. She keeps going. She doesn’t let him direct her, but she also is savvy enough to know when she wants him. How cool is that? That’s why I love her. She’s a hurricane in a dress and can’t be stopped.

I did something I thought would be both cool for the doing and fun for my career as a writer–I joined my local Friends of the Library group. To be honest, I had a little help. I enjoyed helping with the yearly used book sale (I mean, who doesn’t want to be surrounded by books? And cool books, like the 1935 Bar book or original printings of Gone With the Wind…). So when I offered to help with the sale, one of the ladies decided I needed to “join” the Friends. So I did.

It’s been a fun experience. I can truly say I jumped in with both feet. Well, no, I slid in and was then pushed the rest of the way until I landed in WAY over my head. By January, I was already part of a committee and attending my first meeting. There wasn’t much of a getting used to it period.

One of the committees I joined (Dare I say, was added to) involved selecting authors for our yearly Author Brunch. It’s quite the event. Four authors, brunch made by the ladies of the Friends, fun, raffle prizes and a good time. The first event I helped organize involved a murder mystery theme. It went off rather well. This year (the 2019 event) is already in the planning stage. Strike that. We have a theme – Love is in Bloom – a general color scheme – purple and dark green, with elements of both gardening and picnicing – plus three of the four authors are confirmed. Yep. For 2019, we have three of the four already planned and confirmed.

Now don’t think I’m bragging. I’m not. Why? Because we sent out four invites and I haven’t heard from one of the authors. Because we had a few other authors as possibilities in case we had an author with a scheduling conflict (I like to have back-up plans), but most of those authors have NO WAY to contact them.

I might be panicking a little. I’d love to hear back from the fourth author. I’d love to have this sewn up so I can work on things I need to complete. I have deadlines.

The other thing that has me a tad on edge would be the fact I had no idea it would be so hard to get local authors to participate. I know I’ve been eager to attend/participate in any local event I can find. Maybe we’re hard to find? I don’t know. But what I do know is since I’m the publicity head, too, I’m going to work extra hard to make sure everyone knows about this event. I hope you can attend…even if it is in 2019.
