Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Preseason #2 @meganslayer #football

d1b90-monday2bmorning2bquarterback2bposter

For the second week of preseason, there were even more comments and funny bits. I can’t wait to share them with you.

“Good job staying up and fighting for everything he could get.” ~ What’d you expect? For him to roll over and quit?

“Waiting for the tight end to break open.” ~ Is he a watermelon? Pumpkin?

“Not many balls on the field.” ~ They’re nervous. They’ll get better.

“One of the most dynamic players in the league.” ~ He’s a winner.

“Who else can do that? This guy on the edge.” ~ He’s that winner.

“Coming on the inside.” ~ Messy.

“Penetrates the left side.” ~ As opposed to all of it?

And my favorite:

“Hits the soft spot and you don’t want to do that.” ~ Um… Which one? I mean, being mean isn’t cool, so there’s that, but… Maybe the soft spot is a favorite? Still, you shouldn’t hit.

Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback ~ Preseason #1 @meganslayer #football

d1b90-monday2bmorning2bquarterback2bposter

I’ve been a little derelict in my posting of the football funnies. Last year was just…it’s time to look forward. There are some interesting commentators this year so let’s get started.

“Young guys coming together.” ~ I sure hope so or we won’t have a game.

“Likes his tight ends.” ~ Don’t we all?

“Nothing open.” ~ It happens.

“Lots of talent on the field.” ~ So many to choose from.

“Waiting for a hole to develop.” ~ Sounds like a bad pickup line.

“Pressure on his face.” ~ From the tight ends?

“You’ve got your package.” ~ That’s what we’d all like sooner or later.

And my favorite…

“Drilled him.” ~ Can’t say it better than that.

Getting Back Out There with @MeganSlayer #writing #publishing #revisions #newedition #meganslayer

There are a few fun things involved in being an author. You’re writing books. That’s cool enough. I love being able to write for a living. You are welcomed into someone else’s life to share your story. That’s big. The first time I heard someone sought me out because they wanted to read my book was a crazy, fun moment.

But there are a few things that aren’t so fun. One of them would have to be when a publishing house closes. You’ve got your works there. You want to keep them out. Most of all–at least in my case–you love your publisher and don’t want to see them close. But then it happens. Now what?

I ran into that problem. I have books with a pub that’s closed. Many publishers don’t want previously published stories. They want new works. Makes sense. New hasn’t been seen before. New is shiny. New is…new.

But those old stories aren’t bad. Some need updated. Some need help. Most don’t have anything wrong with them. They’re just stories that have been out already. Some have had large reader bases and some have had smaller ones. Some books just need another chance to get out there and be seen.

That’s where I’m at. I’ve got an entire series that’s aching to come out again. So that’s what I did. The whole series is coming out in October. Which? The Battle Scarred Series. Yes. I’m thrilled to have them back out again. It’s great.

Want to know more about the Battle Scarred series? Here’s a little bit about book 1, You Have Me:

The woman he’s charged to protect is all grown up and the perfect submissive partner he wants. Can he keep his heart under wraps while keeping her safe?

Alexa Mercury doesn’t know why she’s supposed to trust the vampire, but she does. Even when she pushed him away, Kynan watches over her. Kynan closed the door to her room and enfolded her in his arms. He stroked her hair, breathing in the scent of her perfume. Watching her through the window paled in comparison to actually holding her.

“Stay with me tonight.” Lexa’s words curled around his heart. “I need you more than you know.”

“You have me,” he replied. She fit so perfectly against his body, like they’d been fated to be together. He thanked God and the forces who’d thrown them together. He kissed the top of her head. “You’re shaking.” Kynan carried her to the bed and cuddled her on his lap. Was their reuniting too much, too soon? Too bad.

“Don’t peer into my head.” Lexa rubbed his arm.

“I won’t.” Damn it. He’d spent so much time peering into the heads of humans he forgot what it was like to take someone on their word. “Tell me what’s upsetting you?” Besides her scary as hell ex happened to be a hunter and wanted him dead. “I’ll lay down my life for you.”

“You’re dead.” She tipped her gaze to his. His skin tingled from her touch on his arm. Most of the time he felt nothing. Now that he was with her, everything came into sharp focus. Her touch sizzled on his skin, and he longed for his heart to beat for her. He groaned.

“I don’t want to be alone.” Lexa kissed his neck, pressing her face to his jugular. “I want to feel loved, not like I’m a freak.”

“You’ve never been a freak.” Why should she feel that way? Because she liked kinky sex? Because she knew a vampire? Bullshit. “Tell me what you like.”

“You.”

The singer isn’t anything he expects, but everything he desires. But can a human and shifter make a relationship work?
Colin knows two things: he wants a life beyond the Mad Dog bar and for his band, the Full Collins Experience, to play more than just Phil Collins cover songs. The moment he sees Jesse, he’s smitten. He knows nothing about shifters, but his heart craves Jesse. There’s no guarantee the twosome will go beyond the bedroom, but Colin’s willing to try.
Can the loner really find a mate? Will his mate be everything he craves? Or will the human run the other way?

CTR Authors Dish: August 2018: Writing Advice @MeganSlayer #meganslayer #writing

ctr-authordish-logo_green

QUESTION: What is the one piece of writing advice that has stuck with you and why?

Answer?

There has been a lot of writing advice that’s flown around. I’m sure most of it’s been heard before. Almost all of it’s good advice. It is. One thing that’s stayed with me all this time doesn’t have much to do with actual writing, but more about promoting your writing. The thing I’ve kept very much in the front of my mind is this: think about what you’re posting online and keep it positive. Sounds like something that should be well known, right? Think before you hit post and keep it upbeat. It’s one of my rules of thumb. There are days, for sure, that are down ones. There are things I’ve done that I thought, how can I make this a positive experience? How can I make this something online that will be positive? That’s important for me. I hear you thinking, not every experience is positive. I mean, gee whiz, we go through things that aren’t always rosy. You’ll want to talk about it. By all means. Talk. But when you’re getting a negative review or the editor has been super hard on you or when you’ve had a fight with someone…maybe you’ve gotten cover art that’s not your favorite. My advice is this: don’t air that dirty laundry on social media. Not only does it make you look petty, but your group of friends might be cool with what you’ve said, but others will take it wrong. Yep. Or it will be interpreted wrong. But being happy or putting a positive spin on the situation…my editor made me cry, but it’s making me stronger OR not my favorite review, but it happens and I’m learning…something like that. It’s the best advice I can think of. Write that new book, keep going, and keep it positive. That’s what you need to do. That’s the best advice I’ve ever been given and now it’s in your hands, too.
