NaNo Craziness ~ #Winning #notWinning and #surviving #NaNo with @meganslayer

Each November, I get a crazy burr in my bonnet and decide to take part in NaNo. You might wonder what NaNo is. It’s National Novel Writing Month – NaNoWriMo or NaNo for short. You can find out more here: https://nanowrimo.org  30 days of writing your heart out to get to fifty thousand words and hopefully a finished novel. The idea is to just write. Get the words down. Don’t worry about editing it–that’s for December and beyond. If you reach 50k, then you’re a winner. You have to validate the word count, but yay! If not, then ya know…it happens.

I try NaNo every year. I think it’s my sick fascination with trying to get those words down. Plus, I’m crazy and need that deadline.

But there are struggles with this goal. There is the constant struggle of getting the words down. I’ve had outlines and things written out, but can’t always find the time to get the words into the computer. I get down on myself because I know what I have to do and how to do it, but the words may or may not come.

Then there’s the pressure of seeing your friends winning at the goal. The whole idea is to win. Duh. But sometimes I get down on myself because I see others finishing ahead of me and I feel like I’m not doing well enough because I can’t keep up. That’s silly because if the words are there, it shouldn’t matter how fast I get them down. Truthfully, the hardest part is just surviving. #IwillsurviveNaNo

Then there’s the cheating. I don’t mean cheating by using old words to win. Nope. I mean cheating by not writing the whole 50k for ONE book. I’m guilty of that. I’ll use the goal for 50k to finish one or two shorter books I need to complete. Am I bad? Probably. I don’t mind. I know I’ll get those books done. I’ve done full-length 50k stories during NaNo, but I’m bad and don’t do it that way every year.

What about you? Do you NaNo? Do you do something else? Want to be friends on the NaNo site? Find me and friend me 🙂 https://nanowrimo.org/participants/wendi-zwaduk

Now a little bit about the story I wrote last year for NaNo:

Wild Card by Megan Slayer wildcard_800

A What’s His Passion Novel

From Pride Publishing

M/M, Anal Sex, Multiple Partners, Voyeurism

Novel

Contemporary Erotic Gay Romance

Following his heart and passion will be his biggest role of all.

Kris Hunter wants out. He’s done pornographic films for the last six years. The pay’s been good, but his creativity is nearly dead. His passion is to act and to be a star on the big screen in mainstream films. When he auditions for famed casting director, Zayn Mason, he’s convinced he’s on the right path. He doesn’t want to take the casting couch route to success, but he certainly wants Zayn in his bed. Can he follow his dreams and the man he desires or will forces beyond his control derail his progress?

Zayn Mason sees the potential in Kris. As a casting director, he looks for the right actor to fill the roles in movies. He’s seen plenty of talent come and go, but no one stirs his soul both creatively and physically like Kris. But Zayn knows the pitfalls of the movie industry. Crossing over from porn isn’t easy and Hollywood isn’t always forgiving. Besides, he’s got demons of his own. Can these men get beyond their pasts and find a future together under the bright lights of the silver screen?

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of voyeurism and intimacy with multiple partners.

Resolutions, Schmezolutions… with @WendiZwaduk and @MeganSlayer

I’m horrible about resolutions. I admit it. I’m a procrastinator, but I love deadlines. I live for that stress of ‘oh crap will I make it’. Some might say I have issues that way. Bet you’d never guess I’m a pantser, too. I am.

This post is about my resolutions. Heh, heh. I’ve tried to make them before. I have. But I’m so horrible about keeping them. I probably set the bar too high, but that’s the kind of person I am.

Since I’ve been asked about my resolutions, I should probably make a few. It couldn’t hurt, right?

This year, 2017, I resolve to…

Write every day. Now I know this won’t happen EVERY day—at least not on the laptop. There will be some days I’m sick (I have a school-aged child) or won’t be home…but I’ll have my notebooks.

I’ll write in my notebook at least a few words every day. Hey, I’ve got a ton of the things and some really pretty ones. I should use them, right?

I’m going to use the fountain pen given to me for Christmas for more than just looking pretty in the box. Hey, it’s an awesome pen and it needs to be used for more than just being pretty. Plus, it looks cool on the page.

In 2016, I wrote over 565,000 words. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that again, but hey, it’s worth a shot to try…so I’ll try.

Those are my resolutions, for good or bad. I’ll do my best, but I also believe in giving myself the leeway to goof up and get back onto the horse. Things happen and if I learned anything in 2016, it’s that I can’t control everything I want to. But if I roll with the punches, bend without breaking and keep my chin up, I’ll be okay.
