Totally Bound

Cian’s coming into her own with her magic. She’s happy rescuing the black cats society doesn’t want, but she’s lonely. A sexy man to warm her nights would be perfect. Too bad the man in question isn’t interested–or is he?

Officer Tommy Barnes noticed Cian and her red hair the first time he stepped into her store, but a witch and a cop should mix–should they? And what’s with her interest in black cats? His investigative sense has him stopping back at the store over and over. He can’t deny his attraction to her. His sixth sense says she’s harmless, but a little investigative work between the sheets never hurt.

Can Tommy withstand the red-hot fire or will this witch get the best of him?

This book follows secondary characters from Candlelit Magic. This book also contains scenes of magic and sex between a witch and her human.

“Cian, I need the full story.” And her phone number. Or at least a longer conversation not involving her potential as a thief. He bit his tongue to keep from saying something he’d regret. When she pursed her crimson lips, he wondered what she’d taste like. He shouldn’t be attracted to her. A cop and a witch couldn’t mix…could they? He didn’t believe in spells or sacrifices. He needed logic and order, but he couldn’t deny the attraction.

Tommy shook his head. He needed to stop looking at her as anything other than a sexual human being.

Cian scooped up one of the cats, then sat on the arm chair. Yet again, she rubbed her cheek on the top of the feline’s head. “Heya Joey.” She scratched under the animal’s chin. “You’re a good baby.” She continued to pet the cat, but turned her attention to Tommy. “You said you wanted the full story. What do you want to know?”

“Everything.” He stood opposite her, unsure of how to unseat the cats. Besides, standing made him focus. “Start from the beginning. Why would someone accuse you of killing black cats? How’d you get into the rescue business and what are you doing tonight?”

“You’re a college student?”

“Yes.” She put her license back in her wallet. “Do you want to see my student ID?”

“No.” He should talk to her in one of the offices, instead of the foyer. “Let me call Amanda over. She can cover the desk.”

“Okay.” She shrugged. “Whatever you’ve got to do.”

He tapped his phone, summoning the woman who normally manned the desk. He sent the text, then turned his attention to Kelly. “Tell me about yourself.”

“What do you want to know?” she asked. “I’m twenty-one, in my third year at Green College. I’m studying film history, and I’d like to get a position working with a museum or in the film industry cataloguing movies. Ideally, I want to work here in Cambridge in the little museum, creating digital and film content for the museum as well as cataloguing the films and clips in the archives.”

“Ah.” He gestured to Amanda, who’d just arrived. “I need you at the desk while I speak to this applicant.”

Amanda crooked her drawn-on eyebrow. “Is that what you’re calling it now?”

“What?” Kelly sighed. “If you can’t take me seriously, then I give up.”

“You’ll never work here with that attitude.” Amanda took her place behind the desk. “Good luck.”

Martin groaned. He liked Amanda, but not in a romantic way. Her sense of humor didn’t gel with his, and she tended to look at the world in a pessimistic manner. “Thank you.” He picked up the laptop and gestured to Kelly. “Ready?”

“Sure.” Kelly inched around the desk.

Amanda grabbed Martin’s arm.

“Hang on,” Martin said. He directed Kelly to the conference room. “Wait here. I’ll be right back.” He left her alone and returned to the desk. “Yes?”

Amanda rested her hands on her hips. The dress clung to her curves and showed too much cleavage, but she did her job and brought in customers. “What’s the deal?” she asked.

“What do you mean?” He raked his fingers through his hair. “What’s your beef?”

“She’s young.”

“She is.” He knew and couldn’t do much about it, but most of the girls who danced at the club were under twenty-five.

“She’s not dancer material.”

“Nope.” He could’ve told her that when Kelly first walked into the building.

“Yet you’re wasting your time on her.” She crooked her eyebrow again. “What’s gotten into you?”

“Do you know who I am?” He narrowed his eyes. “Do you?”

“Not a clue. I thought you were a handsome man who happened to share my elevator car,” she said, trying to be nonchalant. Once he learned her true identity, he’d want something from her. “That’s it. Should I know you?”

“You don’t know?” he asked.

He must be the Crane Gray he’d bragged about. She rolled her eyes. “I’ve said it already. I don’t know you.” She wasn’t lying, even if she’d guessed his identity. “I thought we had a connection, but now I’m scared of you, so I’m leaving.” She turned on her heel and crossed the room.

“Wait.” He touched her arm. “You don’t know?”

“No.” She propped her hand on her hip. “I’d like to go now—if you don’t mind.” This must be part of what Leto meant by screwing with her happiness. Sometimes things with guys just didn’t work out.

“Please don’t.” He held his hand out to her. “I’m Crane Gray and it’s nice to meet you—someone who doesn’t know me. I’ve got a concert here at the hotel tonight. I should be prepping for it, but I just don’t care and I want out of my life for a while. You fascinate me and I’m enjoying myself here in the bar. I’d like you to stay. Please?”

She debated what to do. Stay with Crane, the celebrity, or find someone a little more boring.

“Will you at least tell me your name?” he asked. “Have a drink with me?”

She liked him, despite his ability to drive her crazy. He was physically what she wanted in a man—blond hair, blue eyes, tall, handsome, and younger than her. Then again, most men were younger than her. She’d like to spend time with him because, honestly, this would be the only encounter. He could be that pure gold she’d been looking for.

“Honey?” He gave her space. “It’s just a drink.”

She could handle this. She’d ruined many a man, forced Echo to repeat the same words, turned individuals into monsters, and destroyed mortals. Having a drink with Crane was nothing. “Sure.”

“A woman has no right traveling alone—least of all you,” Sarah Moyer said and stared at her best friend, Felicia. “Understood.”

“I’m telling you,” Felicia said, “nothing good can come of this voyage. Stay here and ride out the storm. Your father will see you’re not interested in Isaiah and he’ll let you decide what you want to do.”

Sarah shook her head. She knew this conversation all too well. She loved Felicia, but even her friend couldn’t help her. Staying away from Norfolk, Virginia, for almost a year hadn’t prevented the wrath of Nelson Moyer. No, the real estate magnate insisted his only daughter come home. She knew darn well what he wanted her to do once she reached Norfolk—find Isaiah Landry and get married. She clutched her pocketbook tighter. No. She didn’t love Isaiah and refused to tie herself down to any man only interested in her father’s money.

“Please stay. Southampton won’t be the same without you.” Felicia grabbed Sarah’s hands. “Please?”

“I’ve got to appease him.” Sarah gazed out at the deep blue ocean before her. In a few minutes, she’d be sailing and free from her cares for a few days. “Come with me. There are plenty of American men who would love an exotic British woman on their arm.”

“You know better.” Felicia blew a blonde curl from her forehead. “Your father wants you home in Norfolk. Mine wants me to be right here in Southampton.” She let go of Sarah. “Then be safe. I’ll write you and try to come visit before autumn.”

“Do.” Sarah kissed her best friend on the cheek then waved.

England hadn’t been the second home she’d been looking for. Nowhere seemed to be home. Over Felicia’s shoulder, Sarah noticed a man weaving through the crowd. Unlike the other passengers, he didn’t appear to be making his way to the main gangplank. He surveyed the passengers then hurried to the far end of the dock. She leaned over the railing to see where he’d gone. Drat. She waved at Felicia once more then made her way onto the small ship.

In typical Moyer fashion, her father had sent a massive yacht to bring her and a few of his friends back to America from England. She stood at the railing of The Lady Moyer and waved to the people on the dock. Once again she spotted the dark-haired man from the throng of people. This time, he seemed to be looking right at her. A shiver skated up her spine. He gazed at her like she was a piece of meat, not a lady. She should avert her gaze, but no matter how hard she tried, she continued to watch him.

“Come along to the cabin, Miss Moyer.” Frederick Rourke, her father’s right-hand man, touched her elbow. “It’ll be cold soon.”

She suppressed the urge to snort. She doubted he cared about the weather. Frederick wanted to make sure she finally went home. He probably had a fat finder’s fee waiting on him at port. She sighed and allowed him to escort her to the luxury cabins on the second level of the ship.

“Your father is quite excited about your arrival.” Frederick placed her bag on the armchair. “He’s been making plans for a month.”

“Oh has he?” She rolled her eyes. “Father doesn’t want me home just to see me. He wants to marry me off. Give a nice boy the deed to the house and the money. I can handle myself.” She untied the lace beneath her chin and removed her hat. “I’m shocked he didn’t try to convince you to marry me.”

“He did, Sarah. I refused.” Frederick’s ears turned bright red. He tugged at his collar. “I told him I didn’t fancy you.”

“Oh?” What a relief, she thought. “The rumors must be true. You and Delia are having a fling.”

“What if this guy could love you? What if he’s not like Harry? You passed him by.” Kelly turned Danya around. “You had the balls to speak to him and have a dance. Harness those balls and give this guy a shot.”

“Mason,” she mumbled. His name sounded good on her lips. He looked like a Mason. He also struck her as exotic but approachable.

“Who?”

“His name is Mason.” She’d spoken to him when she’d thought she had no chance. Before she could cross the room, he and Michelle joined her and Kelly.

Michelle grinned. She leaned into him and tipped her chin. Danya suppressed a groan. The woman didn’t have to be so smug. She’d been friends with Michelle since the third grade, and Michelle never ceased to remind Danya she was the top dog. Danya was the designated unpretty friend.

“Ladies, this is Mason,” Michelle said. “He’s new-ish in town.”

Kelly rested her hands on her hips. “Michelle, aren’t you supposed to be meeting Craig here tonight?”

“We split,” Michelle snapped. “I want to introduce you to Mason.” She turned to him. “You’ve met Danya, and this is Kelly. She’s married.”

“Or she just enjoys sporting big-ass diamonds to ward off approaching men,” Danya muttered.

Kelly snorted. “Justin will love that when I tell him. He spent two grand on a diamond that’s just there to ward off men. Nice.” She stuck out her right hand to Mason. “It’s nice to meet you.” She turned back to Michelle. “Craig texted me and said he’s on his way.”

“Kelly.” Michelle glared at her. “A word?”

Danya stifled a chuckle. Kelly always knew when to stand up to bullies. While Kelly and Michelle went outside to discuss Kelly’s comments, Mason remained with Danya.

“She’s pissed,” Mason said.

“That’s nothing. You’ve never seen her when she’s truly upset. Hell hath no fury like a Michelle annoyed.” Danya shrugged. “She thinks all men are at her disposal.”

“Then it’s a good thing she’s got a boyfriend—I think. I kind of feel bad for him.” Mason bumped shoulders with her. “Makes asking you out a lot easier, though. I meant what I said, and I liked our dance. Want to dance again?” He didn’t give her a chance to argue. He tugged her to the dance floor a second time. “Nice dodge, though.” He half-grinned. “I’d think you were trying to palm me off.”

“No.” Oh God. Ignoring her hadn’t been his intention. “I not good at palming anyone off or having much courage, but if I were at my job, I’d be able to say what I needed to say without a problem. When I’m in the wild, I’m horrible.”

“You seem fine to me.” He held her close once again. “You seem pretty great.”

She tipped her head to the side to look at him. His eyes flashed, then he captured her mouth in a kiss. Electricity shot from her head to her toes. She pressed against him. She’d never been kissed so deeply. Sparks centered in her pussy. He threaded his fingers into her hair and held her tight without crushing her. When he broke the connection, her knees quaked. She sagged into him.

“Damn.” He smiled. “Better than I thought.”

She wanted to say something snappy, but the words weren’t there. Instead, she settled for honesty. “For me, too.”

She draped her arms around his neck. She didn’t want to leave the dance floor or for the night to end. She could almost hear Kelly encouraging her to leave with him and live a little. He hadn’t asked her to go home with him, but the better part of her wanted that to happen.

“I can’t offer you forever, but I want to give you tonight,” he said. He kissed her again then cupped her jaw in both hands. “Very much so.”

“Who needs forever when one night can be everything?”

“Bitter isn’t a good color on you.”

Paul tapped the remote, silencing the television. He could’ve sworn he heard someone besides the people on the screen talking. The voice sounded like Tristan, but that was impossible. Tristan Evans had died two years ago.

“Come on, Paul. Hasn’t it been long enough?”

Damn it. That had to be Tristan’s voice, but from where? He glanced around the room. With the exception of the cat, he was alone. He’d locked the front and back doors and checked the house to ensure everything was safe. Right after Tristan had died, he could’ve sworn he’d heard Tristan talking to him. The shrink dismissed the voice as being a figment of Paul’s imagination and longing. Paranoia, the shrink called it. Paul only lasted the rest of the session before finding a new psychiatrist.

Hearing Tristan had to be a figment of Paul’s imagination—again.

“If you won’t properly speak to me, I’ll stop coming to you.”

Paul squeezed his eyes shut. In his mind he saw Tristan leaning against the bedroom doorframe. He wore his favorite ratty, body –hugging blue jeans, no socks or shoes and the old Flashes shirt he loved. The muscles in his arms bulged and his dark hair flopped over his forehead. His blue eyes blazed as he tipped his head to the side. Even as a memory, he sent warm shivers through Paul’s system.

“You’ve got to stop hating the holiday we both loved. Hate won’t bring me back.” Tristan strode towards him and hooks his thumbs in his front pockets. “Cheer up. Please?”

Tears slipped down Paul’s cheeks. The hurt he’d bottled up for the better part of the last two years came back in a rush. “I know I should, but I can’t. I lost you and seeing all of the Halloween decorations makes that loss so fresh and raw. I can’t do it. I love you, but I can’t keep ripping myself open.”

“Then keep loving me.”

Paul wiped his face and opened his eyes. He needed to get his shit together. Talking to a figment of his imagination wasn’t going to help his situation. Still, the words poured out of him. “How? How do I forget the man I love?”

Tristan sat opposite him on the bed. “You keep my memory alive, thus keeping me alive.”

Paul blinked. He’d opened his eyes. There was no way Tristan could be on the bed with him. No way. He’d buried his lover. “You’re a ghost. Ghosts don’t exist. What the fuck is going on?” He scrambled off the mattress and landed on the floor with a thud. One of the pillows flopped over onto him and he shoved it away. His mind had to be playing tricks on him. “No. Ghost do not exist.”

“Technically I’m not a ghost, but you’d be surprised.” Tristan—or what sure as hell lookedlike Tristan—sighed and stood. He turned his back on Paul. “It all comes down to rules and you know how much I hate rules.” He glanced over his shoulder and smiled. “I found a way around the rules.”

Paul rounded the bed and placed himself between Tristan’s ghost and the cat. No one hurt Milo—not even a crazy ghost who claimed to be Paul’s ex-boyfriend. “I don’t know who you are or why you’re doing this, but the joke is over. You had your fun and old Paul looks like a moron. You won, now get the hell out of my house.”

“Aww, honey, I’m not trying to dupe you.” The man strolled across the room to the bed. “Paul, I’m here.”

She fell into step beside him. “Where are you parked?”

“My regular spot in the players’ area.” He opened the parking garage door. “Just down here.” She messed with his head just by walking with him. He wanted to hold her and feel her tucked to his side.

“I forget you guys have the nicer spots.”

“Just a higher level.” He shrugged. “This is my car.”

“Nice.” Kaja smiled. She caged him between her arms and the back fender of the car. “You said something about wanting me to like you. What if I already did?”

He pressed his hands to his sides. “I’d be shocked.”

“Prepare to be shocked.” She smoothed her palms inside his sport coat and along his chest. The move turned him on, but also confused him. She’d just turned him down!

“Kaja?”

“I’ve wanted to do this for a long time.” She stood on her toes and pressed her lips to his. The moment they connected, he groaned. He’d imagined this moment, and she tasted better than in his dreams. He didn’t bother to think. Screw the rules. He wrapped his arms around her. She cuddled to him. For warmth? He didn’t care.

Kaja broke the kiss first. “Take me home.”

“Come here, tiger. We must speak,” Creighton mumbled to himself. “You’ve been tasked with defending the supers,” he continued. He knew his job. He’d been defending his friends as long as he could remember. But meeting with the sources? He wasn’t sure what they wanted. The sources, the oldest beings in the universe, had called on him. When the sources summoned a super, he or she was to drop everything and show up. He or she would learn their fate and accept what the sources planned. As far as he was concerned, he knew his fate—protecting his human, Vanessa, from the rogue hunters.

He stared at the rock walls of the cave of the sources. Who lived in such a rustic place? Sure, he was a tiger, and the animal preferred the outside, but bland black-and-gray walls with no illumination? Come on. He needed a way to see where he was going, energy…something not here. His shoes clunked on the hard-packed earth as he strode to the bit of brightness at the end of the cave. He noticed shadows moving in the faint glow. The sources? He’d found them? Cool. The words I’m here lingered on his tongue. Shouting to the ancient beings wasn’t bright. He’d wait for them to address him. The closer he got to the light, the slower he moved. A feeling of dread washed over him. This wasn’t going to be some nice, happy meeting. Nope. His tiger groaned. This wasn’t going to be pleasant at all.

“Come closer,” the Leader said. He leaned forward enough for Creighton to see his scraggly white beard. The hood obscured his face. The being pointed a long, bony finger at Creighton. “Do you know why you are here?’

“I’m here to learn my fate and to thank you for summoning me.” Creighton suppressed a smile. Never let it be said he had no manners. “I’m defending the supers, like you’ve asked.” He wondered what exactly the Leader was sitting on. Air? A rock chair? He couldn’t tell. Not knowing added to his growing alarm. Would they whisk him away to fight another part of the war and force him to leave his friends? Crazy thoughts, but then again, he wasn’t sure what to expect.

“You’re a cocky tiger.” The Leader turned over his palm. A flash of light flickered from the center of his hand. “You have been called upon because of the war. It has grown much worse than anticipated and is out of control. You need to be doing more than simply defending.”

Creighton nodded and tuned his thoughts to fight mode. “We cannot tell the rogue hunters from the main group. The defenders are trying their best, but without information, we feel we’re all working blind.”

“You are,” another source said. This one sounded female. “The supernatural races depend on you.”

“Wait.” Creighton disobeyed the cardinal rule of the sources and stepped closer to the ancient beings. “Me? Our merry band of misfits is a solid unit. You can’t mean that I am the only one who can stop this. You just told Kynan he was the one to end the war. This cannot wholly be on my head.” Good Goddess, he understood tactical maneuvers and reconnaissance, but playing with emotions and understanding the enemy weren’t his strong points.

The source cackled. “You will grow in numbers.”

“Great.” He liked the sound of the group getting larger. Maybe they’d find some more vampires and a couple more shifters to balance them out. Or they’d be given the opportunity to have children. One day he wanted to make lots of children with Vanessa, but the relationship was still new. “We can use all the help we can get, but you said to grow in numbers. Is having children soon a good idea?”

“Not so fast, tiger. Do you enjoy being in your human form?”

“Yes, very much.” But he didn’t like the tone change in the sources. “Why?” More of his surroundings came into view. Black and brown streaked on the walls along with something else—figures. He tipped his head. He should’ve been listening, but the images grabbed his attention. Some of the folk-art-type figures looked like animals.

“To keep the human form from being locked away forever, you must find your mate. It is time you accepted that part of your fate as well,” the source said, pulling his attention back to the situation.

“I believe I’ve found her.” Now they were getting somewhere. He’d known all along his fate lay with Vanessa and that she was his true mate. He thought about her in his dreams. Even if she turned him down, he knew where his heart belonged—with his pasha, Vanessa.

“You believe? Tiger, there is much more to finding a mate besides belief.”

He gritted his teeth. He assumed the sources would make the situation difficult, but not this much. “Vanessa is a suitable pasha. She’s a seer. She’s also beautiful, and we have perfect chemistry.” In and out of bed. So they’d only been together a few weeks and spent most of their time having sex. He knew his heart. He pressed his lips together to keep from spilling that tidbit of information. The sources didn’t need to know they had a great sex life.

“She is unworthy of you.”

“I don’t agree,” he snapped. Unworthy? Hell’s bells, she wasn’t worthy. She’d stood up to Brad and the other hunters when she could’ve easily run away. Her fortitude endeared her to him. He looked at the images again. The figures appeared to be moving. To tell the future?

“Your mate will need to be more than a seer. You are a tiger and must have a mate to match your power and strength.” The Leader leaned back in his seat, hiding himself almost completely in the shadows. The flame burning from his palm extinguished. “Do you wish to extinguish your power like this?”

As the Leader spoke, the image of a man faded, and a large cat took its place. A cat-shifter? The female beside that tiger vanished. Shit. Creighton’s stomach churned.

“What happens if I take the wrong person—or tiger—as my pasha?” He couldn’t risk losing Vanessa or proving the cave art correct.

“You will become useless to the cause. Your human form will recede, and the animal will become dominant.” The Leader blew the residual smoke from the fire toward Creighton. “Within a short time, you will go mad without your true pasha, and the hunters will have to eradicate you.”

Fuck. Creighton fought back his growing irritation. “So I can be happy with Vanessa and hope she is my true mate, or I can dump the woman I’m close to in order to help the supers win the war and maybe even find that elusive mate? Sounds swell.” He shook his head. “At least tell me who this pasha is I’m looking for. I’d hate to be wasting my time and energy for nothing.” The light grew dimmer, and he couldn’t see the Leader, but he felt the Leader’s icy stare. He stifled a shiver. “Just doesn’t seem right.”

“I cannot tell you the identity of your mate. You must find the person or super worthy enough to be your pasha. Someone worthy of a tiger.”

He already had found that person. His heart ached. They honestly wanted him to choose.

“Your time in your human form grows short. In less than three weeks’ time in human weeks, you must find your pasha. If you cannot find your mate or if you choose to take the wrong person”—the Leader stressed the word person—“you will suffer the consequences. Your tiger will take over, and you’ll be little more than a beast—a beast fighting madness. Understood?”

He didn’t have much choice. The moment he was born, his fate was sealed. “I understand.” He didn’t agree, but he accepted the word of the sources. Around him the world plunged into darkness. The cave walls disappeared, and the ground beneath him shifted. The sources called when they wanted a super and sent him or her back just as fast. Creighton stumbled and knocked into the hallway wall.

He collapsed on the carpet and weighed his options as he regained his bearings. Vanessa had been the only light in his life. She gave him reason for not giving up. But how could he keep seeing her while searching for his elusive mate?

Easy, he couldn’t. He’d have to pick one or the other.

But who would protect her, and how the hell was he going to sit back and allow another man to touch her? If the rogue hunters found out about her—and they would once the information from Brad’s killing got back to them—she’d be kidnapped or killed. Brad, Kynan’s pasha’s ex, caused a shit storm with his attempted murder on his friends. Soon, more anger and war would descend on the small group, and he refused to leave Vanessa alone in harm’s way.

She might not be his mate, but he wasn’t giving up his seer without a fight. Not a chance.

“Hey, you’re back.” Vanessa threw her arms around Creighton’s neck. “You scared me. I know this is a huge mansion and all, but don’t just disappear like that.”

“Huh?” He tugged her to his chest. Her brown eyes glittered. When she smiled, a little more of the ice around his heart melted. “I’m sorry. I spaced for a moment. Catch me up on what happened.”

Her eyebrows rose, and then she frowned. “Spaced?” She snorted and flipped her golden-blonde hair over her shoulder. “Okay, I’ll play along. You were going to get something for us to eat, and when I looked for you, poof! Gone! No CR in the hallway, kitchen, or anywhere else I looked. I screamed for Ky and Lexa when I saw the car was still in the garage. When I came back to the room, you’re here and acting like you’ve been a million miles away.”

“I kind of was.”

“Creighton.” Kynan, his friend the vampire and owner of the mansion, sprinted down the hallway. “What happened?” He stopped short. “You were summoned, weren’t you?”

“Yes.” The moment he replied, he wished he hadn’t been asked the question. He hated to admit he’d been summoned, because then he’d have to explain that Vanessa wasn’t his pasha. The color drained from Kynan’s pale face, but he didn’t say anything.

“Summoned? By whom and for what?” Vanessa slid out of his arms and stood. She smoothed her T-shirt down her curvy frame. “What’s going on, and why do I have a bad feeling about what you’re going to say?”

Shit. He knew this would happen. Creighton leaned against the wall and forked his fingers into his hair. “The sources called on me. It’s my time to find my mate and build up my power so we can fight the war.”

“When do we get started?” Vanessa asked. “I’m game.”

“It’s—it’s not that simple.” Kynan nodded and folded his arms. Once he’d found his pasha, Lexa, he’d been able to step out of the shadows and walk in the light. He was still a vampire but much more powerful. “Finding one’s mate can be life or death. Vanessa, you should go back to your suite and talk to Creighton.” He nodded and left them alone in the hallway.

“Yeah,” Creighton said and pushed off the wall. “This is complicated.”

“Okay.” Vanessa offered her hand. “Let’s do this thing. How do we make you all super and powerful?” She threaded their fingers together. “Hot sex? Special words? Hot sex and special words? Come on, I’m trying to lighten the mood a little.”

“I know you are.” He draped his arm around her shoulders. “I appreciate it.” He opened the door to the suite they shared. “It’s a long process, finding my mate. I need to soul search and follow my heart.”

“I’m right here. Done.” She bounced into the room ahead of him. “Now what?”

Creighton stood in the doorway. How the hell was he going to crush her spirit and tell her the truth when he wasn’t so sure the sources were correct? Down in his gut, he believed she was his pasha. “Like I said, it’s complicated. Sit, and we’ll talk.” And hopefully you’ll still count me as your friend when all of this is over.
