This week’s post concerns the best autobiography or biography. I rather looked forward to this post because I just read a book that was darn fantastic. Just as I Am by Cicely Tyson, her autobiography. First off, I didn’t know much about her, but the photo on the front captivated me. Then I read it and wow. This woman lived and she was so cool. The book reads like a conversation between friends, too. I recommend it.

And I know there may not be as many Beatles fans here, but The Beatles by Bob Spitz is pretty darn comprehensive for a biography. It’s long, but recommended because it’s in-depth. I loved it.

What books do you recommend? I’m all ears…or in this case, eyes. 🙂

This week’s post is about books I found because of someone’s recommendation. I’ve looked forward to this post because I’ve had some great results this year, just by following the recommendations of my friends. Really.

I picked up The Witch of Blackbird Pond on recommendation. I read it before, but I’m reading it with fresh eyes and can’t put it down.

I had a friend suggest The League of Wives, about the wives who pushed until their POW/MIA Husbands came home from Vietnam. It was moving and heartbreaking. I’m glad I read it.

I read In Pieces, Sally Field’s biography because I was told, oh yes, read this book. Other than Ms. Field repeating she thought she’d worry about something later… I liked the book. It was worth the read.

I’ve got other books I’ve read that were recommended, but here’s a few from the list that are upcoming:

  • The Wedding Gift by Marlen Suyapa Bodden
  • Women in Space: 23 Stories of First Flights, Scientific Missions, and Gravity-Breaking Adventures by Karen Bush Gibson
  • The Woman Who Smashed Codes: A True Story of Love, Spies, and the Unlikely Heroine Who Outwitted America’s Enemies by Jason Fagone
  • Rocket Girl: The Story of Mary Sherman Morgan, America’s First Female Rocket Scientist by George D. Morgan
  • The Mercury 13: The True Story of Thirteen Women and the Dream of Space Flight by Martha Ackmann

I might be a teensy interested in space and have had some great looking recs based on that. 🙂

What do YOU recommend? I”m game.

Valermo Dax wants to be loved. He doesn’t fit into societal molds and he’s fine with that. If he can find a guy who adores him as-is, even better. Stripping isn’t getting him noticed by the kind of guys he wants to date—until Corey walks into the club.

Corey Blumenthal knows who he wants to see at the club—Val. Ever since they shared a biology class four years ago, he’s crushed on the sexy man sporting glitter and those sky-high heels. He finally winds up the courage to take Val home, but things don’t go as planned. A curse, shouted in anger, turns their world upside down.

Can these two men find the strength, courage, and love they always knew they had in order to save each other? Or will the curse change them forever?
