After the Con… with @meganslayer #convention #work #writing #friends

2017 RAGT Author

Every year in June, I have the opportunity to attend a great event. I love going to the Reader and Author Get Together (#RAGT18). This is my time to have writer-girl time. I get to fangirl. I get to just be an author for a little while.

I’m guessing you’re wondering what I mean by just being an author time. Here’s the thing… when I’m at home and writing on my side of my laptop, it’s me and the computer. I know I have fans. I know I have readers. That’s not me being full of myself. You email me and tell me you’re reading. I meet readers who tell me they like my work.

But when I’m at the con, I get to be an author. I get to be me. I get to meet the readers, talk about my books and even drop a new one. That’ll be in a later post. Trust me. It’s coming.

I get to think about writing, talk about writing and not have to deal with the unglamorous part of my life–pets who leave little messes, ferrying kids, paying bills and being a life partner. I don’t dislike those things. I’m a happy mom, wife and pet parent. But sometimes it’s nice to be recognized for being an author.

That’s part of the fun of the event.

I’ll have more this week. There was so much that went on at the event, it’s hard to cover it in one post.

Later, tater.

At the Close of the Con with @MeganSlayer #RAGT18 #convention #meganslayer #whatilearned

As I look back on this convention, #RAGT18, I have to pause to think about the people who weren’t there. I have to give pause for missing them. When I go to the Reader and Author Get Together, my main goal is to see my friends. It’s like a family reunion. Some of the faces change, but most don’t. It’s comforting.

I have to pause to think about the friends who were there. The laughs, the fun and the good times. Like I said, I go for the friends.

Books have been sold, parties had and prizes won. The money for the raffles went to a pet shelter, so I went a little overboard. I’m a pet person.

I would like to say I’ve got more to mention but I don’t. Why? It’s the end and doggoneit, I’m tired.

While I get back up to speed, here’s a little bit about my latest release, Embracing His Roar:

Embracing His Roar by Megan Slayer Embracing His Roar

Sanctuary, Book 11

Gay Paranormal Erotic Romance

Novella

From SuperNova Indie Publishing

A bobcat who doesn’t think he belongs and a lion who believes he is unlovable…can they make a relationship work?

Avan has made his share of mistakes, but those are in the past. Moving forward means forgiving himself and having a life at the Sanctuary. He wants just one shifter—Oscar. The bobcat shifter soothes his soul and seems to see the best in Avan. But will he want to be with Avan, even after everything Avan’s done?

Oscar’s lusted after Avan since he first saw him. He doesn’t care what Avan’s done because he believes everyone deserves a second chance. But Oscar’s got a past, too. He’d never felt like he belongs, even at the Sanctuary. The one place he feels safe is with Avan.

The odds a bobcat and lion should be together are low, but the passion between them sizzles. Can they find common ground and embrace their roar or will their differences destroy the blossoming relationship?

What’s your favorite book convention to attend and why? with @meganslayer #conventions #ragt18 #writing #authorlife

I have two different conventions I like to attend. I’m sort of an oddball, though. The first big convention I love to attend would be the Lori Foster Reader and Author Get Together (#RAGT18) down in Cincinnati, Ohio. This convention always sells out and almost always in a matter of minutes.

The thing about this con is that it’s smallish. There are only 500 attendees, including the authors and it’s mostly readers. It’s all in one hotel and the hotel is small so there’s little worry of getting lost. One hallway and two turns…and you’ve seen it all. But it’s like being with family. Many of the same people attend and it’s fun. It’s not stuffy. You’re hanging out with your friends. Really.

There are raffles, lots of little things where you can hang with authors and the money for the raffles go to the animal shelter. You’re helping critters and could win a basket. I love it. Want to know more? http://readerauthorgettogether.com/

The other convention I like to attend that’s really not a convention, but rather a tiny event, is the Books and Brunch event put on by the Friends of the Keystone-LaGrange Public Library. Now, I see you’re thinking…a friends of the library event? Must be small. It is. There are only four featured authors. It’s only a couple hour event. But being smallish helps. You get to talk to the authors and you’re served a wonderful brunch for only $12 a ticket. How can you beat that?

I love being able to talk to the authors, to have great food and mostly help the library. That’s the big thing for me. For this event, all the money goes to the library for the renovations to the existing building. How cool is that? Find out more right here: http://www.elyrialibrary.org/KLCLFriends_Home.html

When the Con Comes Alive by @MeganSlayer #RAGT17

2017 RAGT Author I promised I’d write a post about #RAGT17 and I’m not going to welch on the deal. First things first, what is RAGT? It’s the Reader and Author Get Together. What’s it all about? Authors and Readers getting together for general fun time. We’re talking hanging out and talking about books. 🙂 It’s the brainchild of Lori Foster and I love to attend. It’s always a good time.

So many great things happened this year. First, there were over 163 first timers this year! Yeah, over 163 out of 515 attendees. We (Cheryl Dragon, Jocie McKade and I) ordered 175 first timer bags and all were given away. How cool is that? I want to thank the people who donated to those bags. Without you, the bags would be…well…empty! Erin McCarthy, Paige Tyler and CC Dragon donated books, so each bag got a book. If you donated to our bags, thank you. We appreciate it and the first timers felt the love. ❤

I wish I could say I got pictures at the event, but I didn’t. Nope. I forgot to take any. I’m sure photos of me will show up all over facebook and other social media. I’m okay with that. Look for me and if you see me, then tag me.

I want to thank CH Admirand for donating books to the volunteers at RAGT. That was so cool. We love those books. Besides, CH is just a fantastic person. I’m so glad I got to see her again this year.

Thank you to Cheryl Dragon and Jocie McKade for help with the Welcoming Committee this year. You both rock. ❤

As for the super secret, super special surprise this year with Madison Sevier, holy crap…did our surprise go over well. If you didn’t know about it, we wrote Faeries After Dark just for RAGT. You can get the print version right now on Amazon and on the 28th of June, the ebook version will be available. If you haven’t snagged a copy or were in our blogger lounge and missed out, be sure to grab a copy today! Thank you to everyone who showed up to the event. We’re already planning something super secret and super special for next year. Stay tuned. It’s going to be epic…again!

If you bought a copy of my book at the bookstore, thank you. It was a total shock to see my book there and I’m thankful that Gayle was able to get it in. It was a real treat to see it there. If you bought a copy of my books from me, then thank you! I’m happy to say I sold out and I’m thrilled the books are with you to enjoy and treasure. You all rock!

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Sparkling Authors promotion. Jocie McKade, Cheryl Dragon, Tina Holland, Constance Phillips, Renee Vincent, Amy Gregory, D Renee Bagby, Madison Sevier and I had a blast with this promotion. If you collected even a few of the charms, you’ve got a great start for a bracelet. If you got all of them, even better. Sparkling Authors, I’ll have that list to you soon for the newsletters. One thing at a time. 😊

As always, I want to thank the volunteers including Lady B, Sabra, Christy, Tommie, and everyone for making the event so much fun. Thank you to Lori for having a fun event that’s always a pleaser.

Whew…I think that’s everyone and everything. If you’ve never gone to this event, consider it. Through the raffles, we raised over $22,000 for the One Way Farm, over $1,500 for the local APL and had a blast just hanging out as a collection of readers and friends. Here’s to a fantastic 2018 and hope to see you there!
