Writing the Magic of Christmas with @MeganSlayer #christmas #shortstory #gayromance #erotic #bdsm

There is something about the magic of the season that’s fun for authors. It is. Authors have the thrill and romance of

Christmas as inspiration for stories. I love it. There’s something about the snow, the chill, the sparkles and the nostalgia that gets to me. I’m a sucker for the movies. Doesn’t matter what channel, I’ll find a Christmas movie and indulge. I don’t care if it’s mundane, if the ending is silly or if I’ve seen the movie a hundred times, I’ll watch.

Why?

Getting immersed in the spirit of the holidays helps me to write. Once one idea starts flowing, the rest follow. This year, one of my Christmas stories involved a box. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Um, there are a lot of boxes that have to do with Christmas. Hello, Christmas gifts come in boxes. I put a new spin on the gift idea.

Here’s the blurb for my short story, Christmas Box:

Hayes Carter knows what he wants out of life — to be the best lawyer he can, to balance his work and home life and to please his Sir. This Christmas, he wants to belong to Sir for good.

Ford Rogan loves his boy, Hayes, but Ford’s not sure he’s relationship material. Hayes, though, makes him think otherwise. Then there’s that naughty Santa at the club… Submit and your wish will come true

Can Santa, even a naughty one, grant their wishes? Will the magic of the season be enough, or will they end up with nothing more than a lump of coal?

See? Not the standard here’s a gift and I hope you like it fare. A person in the box? Now, don’t get wonky on me. This isn’t a creeper story. I like feel good Christmas tales. Everything works out in the right way at the end. There’s magic, mayhem and a spanking or two. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

What about you? What’s your favorite thing about Christmas? I’d love to know!!

Writing What You Love with @MeganSlayer #vampires #gayromance #eroticromance #gay From the Paranormal Romantics Blog

I am part of a book club, well 2, and for one of them we have to read the book the group selects. I don’t mind. These tend to be books I wouldn’t have read otherwise. So I’d finished the book selected for this month and was returning it to the library. I told the librarian that I’d returned it, so when she saw it in the return…that’s why. She asked me what I thought about the book. It wasn’t my favorite story. It wasn’t. I had some issues with the way the author wrote the true crime story. He focused more on his thoughts and his insertion into the story, while trying to claim it was a true crime kind of tale. If he’d said it was a work of fiction, then he was spot on, but by calling it true crime…well, I disagreed.

Here’s the thing, the librarian then said to me, well you have to write what you know. He must feel that close to the story.

She’s right. He must’ve felt that close to the story. To be honest, the crime he wrote about hit me hard, too. But I’m not a crime writer. I get too antsy during mystery books and want to disclose whodunit immediately. I guess it’s part of my short attention span. But what she said got me to thinking. Write what I know? Or write what my imagination and the characters dictate?

I tend to write what I want based on what the characters tell me to do. Really. I tried to write more than a few times to what I knew. It’s only worked when my characters share some of my experiences. Okay, so I don’t personally know any vampires and I haven’t chatted up a zombie, but that’s my imagination. I don’t know if I wrote a story that focused just on my personal experience, if it would be a good story. I don’t know. I guess it would be more of an autobiography than a work of fiction. Although I suppose the book would be a mix of both. My memories aren’t photographic. For all I know, I’d probably embellish–not to make the tale better, but because that’s how I’d remembered it.

But I haven’t written that story about my experiences. I’ve written about vampires, zombies, shifters, romance, love and people finding second chances. It’s been fantastic. I love it. I’ve written with my friends and written alone. I can’t wait to get my next book out there. I hope you all enjoy them. 🙂

Here’s a little bit about my upcoming story, Biting Love. It’s part of the series I wrote as a crossover to Madison Sevier’s Rosie Peaks series. Check it out!!

Mix one vampire with one human who doesn’t believe in the paranormal and add some sizzle.
Anson wasn’t looking for a partner when he spotted the handsome human, but he’s not about to argue when the mood strikes. He’s got to bring a date to the Halloween bash and Parker fits his bill exactly. Now all he needs to do is convince Parker that vampires truly exist.
Parker is practical, intelligent and a little on the geeky side. He can’t believe his eyes—a handsome man has not only hit on him, but asked him out…to a masquerade ball. He doesn’t believe in vampires, but Anson wears his Dracula costume a bit too well.
Can these two find love and trust after all or will the sparks only last until the dawn?

“You’re ready for this form of play.” He slapped Roddy hard on the ass with his bare hand. He slid his middle finger between Roddy’s ass cheeks. “Who does this belong to?”

“You, Sir,” Roddy answered. He held his reservations in check. Master Vegas had said the word play. Not love, not romance or desire. Just play. He shouldn’t have hinged his hopes on Master Vegas wanting him in a romantic way.

“You belong to me. Say it again.” Master Vegas punctuated his words with flat-handed spanks on Roddy’s butt. He tapped Roddy’s asshole on the last word.

“You, Sir.” He flexed his hole, ready to allow Master Vegas into his body. The toys and masturbation weren’t enough. He needed a real man.

“Good, pet.” Master Vegas dribbled chilly lube down the crack of Roddy’s butt. He continued tapping Roddy’s hole. “How much do you want me here?”

“I crave you, Sir.” At least he’d been honest. He pressed his face into the warm leather. “Please, Sir? Fuck me.” He wanted his Sir in his ass right now. Needed him. Couldn’t wait another minute.

“You expect a lot.” Master Vegas caressed his middle finger over Roddy’s hole, then eased inside. He pushed past the tight ring of muscle until he buried himself two knuckles deep.

Holy shit. Roddy wanted to thrust. Every instinct told him to ride Master Vegas’ middle finger. Instead, he held back. He wasn’t in control.

“Good, pet. You’re withholding for me. Pleasing me.”

“You can face me.” Padraig stayed in the doorway. “I’ll bite because I’m a vampire, but only if you allow it.” He chuckled at his horrible excuse for a joke. “Sorry.”

“Ha-ha.” Joachim stomped to his bed and then flopped face-first onto the mattress.

Padraig admired his friend’s position. He could ogle Chim’s ass all he wanted, but the pose made conversation difficult.

“We need to talk.” Padraig leaned against the bedpost of his bed. “Now.”

“Right.” Joachim rolled onto his back. “So you can tell me I’m an idiot. Well, get it out now. I can take it.”

“What are you talking about? You’re not an idiot.” Padraig sat beside Joachim. “But I could understand you better if you could at least look at me.”

“Better?” Joachim sat up and faced Padraig.

“Much, stubborn wolf.” Padraig stared. Joachim embodied the strength of the wolf, but in human form. He exuded power and sometimes patience. But looking at him, Padraig noticed the gauntness under Joachim’s eyes. “You haven’t been eating.”

“Not regularly. Nothing to hunt.” Joachim shrugged. “I’m managing.”

“Uh-huh.” Padraig glanced over at Joachim’s clenched hands. “How old are you?”

“Twenty-seven,” Joachim snapped. He leaped off the bed and then strode to the window. “I’m twenty-seven.”

Spoken like a man trying to convince himself. “Huh. I would’ve guessed you no more than twenty-three.” Padraig eased up behind Joachim without touching him. They’d fit together well—if they ever got their shit figured out. “I’m twenty-nine—well I was before I became a vampire. It dawned on me that we’d never discussed our ages before.”

“We spent most of our time hiding and being quiet. There wasn’t time to chat.”

“True.” Padraig rubbed Joachim’s shoulders. When the shifter didn’t pull away, Padraig continued touching him. “Are you done pouting?”

Joachim gasped, and then his shoulders sagged. “Yeah. I’d say what I was doing wasn’t pouting, but you’d know I wasn’t telling the truth.”

“I’m not sure why you think I’d call you an idiot. I don’t think you are. You’re a tad immature, but since I don’t know how you were raised, I can’t pass judgment.”

“Fine. I’m twenty-three.”

“I assumed as much.” Padraig suppressed his pleasure in guessing correctly.

“How?” Joachim turned around, finally facing Padraig. “No one ever questioned me.”

“You’re sulky, pouty, and not as weary of the world as some people.” Padraig curled his fingers under Joachim’s chin. The man also had a youthful glow and a light in his eyes Padraig couldn’t deny. Oh and Joachim’s smile…Padraig bit back a light moan. His smile melted Paddy’s heart.

“Oh.” Joachim didn’t pull away.

“It’s not a bad thing, being you.” Goddess, he sounded like his father. Padraig grunted. Wouldn’t dear old Dad love to know his gay son had a thing for a straight guy? Padraig swiped his thumb across Joachim’s bottom lip. “Now, about the other thing. I’m bisexual. I tend to swing more toward guys, but some women catch my fancy. Is Ava pretty? Yes. Would I take a tumble in the sheets with her if she asked? You bet. Am I trying to get her into my bed? No.”

“I knew it.” Joachim inched away from Padraig, putting space between them. “You’re not obvious, but I knew you were hot for her.”

“I’m also attracted to you.”

“Did you mean what you said? About talking to me?” Colin stopped by the cart corral. He yanked one of the carts free from the rack. “You asked Gage if you could speak to me. Guys don’t usually do that.”

“I’m stepping in on your dad-kid time. I might have been a jerk in the past, and I’m sorry.” Jordan plucked a basket from the stack. “The kid needs to be included. If something happens in your life, it affects his.”

“How did you become so smart about single parenting?” Colin pushed the cart and stayed beside Jordan. “Most guys don’t get that. They think my kid is baggage I can unload at will.”

“Not that you don’t make use of your brother being in town.” Jordan waggled his eyebrows. “I’m sure he’s handy.”

“He is since he’s in the other half of the duplex. We pooled our money to get it. We’ll either sell it when we outgrow it or if one of us moves out, just knock down the walls and make it a single-family dwelling.” Colin tossed a couple boxes of prepackaged cupcakes into his cart. “Gage takes those to school.”

“Remember when I stole yours?” Jordan gripped the basket with both hands. “I felt guilty for the rest of the school year.”

“We were like twelve.” Colin snorted. “You still remember that?”

“Guilt has a way of not letting go. Tommy Hicks conned me into it. I think he figured out I had a thing for you.” Jordan pressed his lips together. He’d known since they were in middle school that he was gay and crushed on Colin for most of that time. He wondered what Colin would make of his admission.

“You’re not comfortable with coming out.” Colin placed two loaves of bread on the child seat part of his cart. “Isn’t it funny how we know, but we aren’t ready to admit it to anyone, least of all ourselves?” He smiled and reached for Jordan but pulled his hand away before they touched. “Now’s my turn to understand. Flaming shit aside, it’s hard to be gay in this town.”

Jordan glanced around. Only he and Colin stood in the aisle. He wanted to say something smart like, I’m on the force. I can’t come out. The words didn’t come. He stepped in close to Colin.

“I’m scared to speak up. If I do, I’m worried the people won’t respect me as a cop,” he whispered. “Stupid, right?”

“Then they’re fools.” Colin bridged the gap between them and kissed Jordan on the lips. The woodsy scent of his cologne wrapped around Jordan, and the heat of Colin’s breath warmed Jordan’s cheeks. When Colin pulled away, the blue in his eyes flashed. “I’m not a fool,” Colin murmured.

The kiss lasted seconds, and Jordan doubted anyone saw them, but the connection remained. His lips tingled, and his heart fluttered in his chest. He’d been kissed in public by Colin Baker. Kissed! Holy shit.

What was it about Ben that kept Joe thinking about him? He closed his eyes and stood under the searing-hot spray. With other guys, Joe did the casual thing. Have a good time but no strings, so no one got hurt. Until now, that plan had worked. Right?
Kind of. Sure, he had nothing holding him down, but when he looked at John and Markas together, jealousy hit. He wanted that kind of devotion. Would he get it with Ben?

Ben was certainly different. He was innocent and deserved someone worthy of him. Joe wasn’t worthy of too much of anything. He’d had a little too much fun and broken a few too many hearts along the way. Ben needed true devotion and a good match.

Joe snorted. He was great as a reporter and nosy as hell, but he sucked at relationships. Ben deserved a partner, not a player.

Still, he liked Ben. He worried about the shifter and wanted him to be happy. Could Joe make Ben happy? Doubtful.

Joe opened his eyes and washed the cum from his body. He’d be a friend and help Ben find a suitable partner. No romantic entanglements—just friendship—even if it damn near killed him not to be the man in Ben’s arms and bed.

This was one situation he couldn’t screw up.

Dylan.

He shouldn’t say anything. Should keep on walking.

“Hi there. Do you come here often?” Hell. Of all the things he could’ve said, Chase picked one of the worst pick-up lines…ever.

Dylan’s eyes narrowed. “Do I—we’ve met, haven’t we?”

“I’m sorry. I’m horrible at manners sometimes.” Chase offered his hand. “I’m Chase. We met at the Riley party.” He dropped his voice to a whisper. “I’m Mind Bender.”

“Oh!” Dylan’s eyes widened. “I hadn’t recognized you…but I bet that was the point.” His cheeks burned bright red and the color spread down his neck. “Can I say that was a good show, or will I get you into trouble?”

“Won’t get me into trouble. I appreciate the kind words.” Chase nodded to the cart. “I needed to get a few things. Care to walk with me, or are you nearly done?”

“I’m trying to get my shopping done while Nathan’s at swim camp.” Dylan gripped the cart. “The kid is a fish.”

“He’s your only child?” Chase pulled up beside Dylan and walked the rest of the way down the frozen food aisle.

“Just one. My partner and I couldn’t decide on another one.” Dylan’s blush deepened. “It’s a long story.”

“But I bet it’s a good one.” Chase missed being able to converse with other adults. The people at the store were okay, but they weren’t Dylan. The spark from the party hadn’t been in his imagination. He and Dylan seemed to be able to talk quite well.

“The story has its good parts, but there are bad parts, too.” Dylan stopped. “How much more do you have to buy?”

“Truth be told, I’m done.” Chase grinned. “I didn’t need much.”

“If you’re done, do you want to grab a cup of coffee? The little shop allows carts. I’ve only got a few more things to get.” Dylan flexed his fingers on the cart handle. The indentation of a wedding ring was evident, but not deep. Divorced? Split up? Chase wanted to know and yet, he didn’t want to ask.

“I’d like that,” Chase said. “I’ll pay for my things while you finish, then meet you at the coffee shop in, what, ten minutes?”

“Sounds good.”

Paying for his items didn’t take the entire ten minutes. For once, the lines at the store moved quickly. Chase tucked his change into his wallet. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d gotten through the line in less than fifteen minutes. He pushed the cart to the coffee shop. Most of the tables were empty and one of the booths was free. He pushed the cart behind the booth and plopped onto the wooden seat.

His skin prickled. Being around Dylan heightened his senses. What was it about the dad that kept him on the edge? He eased his phone from his pocket and switched the ringer to silent. If anyone needed him that bad, they could wait. As he sat there, the salt shaker began to levitate. Oh fuck. He grabbed the glass container and held it to the table top. No, no, no. His powers weren’t allowed to go haywire. They weren’t.

Tony bobbed his head to the heavy beat and wandered around his tiny apartment. He needed to say the right thing to Kade. One wrong move and he’d screw everything up even more.

“Hi. We met during class today. I’ve been watching you for the last two months and hoped you’d notice me. You haven’t, so I acted like a jerk in order to grab your attention.” He shook his head. Yeah, that wouldn’t work. “Remember me? I still want to work with you on this project. I’m an ass, but I’ve got my heart in the right place.” No. He’d been thinking with his cock, not his heart.

Tony drummed his fingers on the table then picked up the telephone. Shit. He needed the class roster sheet the prof had passed out. That had everyone’s contact info on it. He found the paper. With shaky hands, he pressed the numbers for Kade and held his breath. Here goes nothing…

“Hello?” Kade’s voice came across the line. “Who is this?”

“Hi. It’s Tony. I’m in Scriptworks with you.” He balled his fist. “I wanted to talk to you about the project.”

“You do, eh?” Kade sighed. “I’m not interested.”

“Wait. Don’t hang up.” Christ. He hated the idea of being wimpy and begging. “I can do this project without you, but I’d like to talk to you.”

“You stole that book out of my hands.”

“Would you believe I did it to get you to talk to me?”

“What? No. I don’t believe you. I’m hanging up now.”

“Don’t.” He closed his eyes. “I’m really trying right now.” Something deep within him ripped in half. “Please?”

Kade said something Tony didn’t understand then growled. “If I decide to talk this over with you and think about doing this joint-project, will you give me the book back? I have to get the paper done by next Wednesday.”

“You drive a hard bargain.” As if he’d actually keep the book. He didn’t need a description of Hitchcock’s works. Tony gripped the phone tighter. “Deal. Meet me at Harvard Place in a half hour. I’m in apartment 5-C. I’ll wait in the foyer. Interested?”

Kade didn’t answer for a long time and with each passing moment, Tony’s heart sank. He opened his eyes and began to pace again. If he didn’t get an answer, he’d know the truth. He’d fucked up.

“Okay,” Kade said. “I’ll do this, but only because I want my book.”

“Sweet.” Tony loosened his grip. “See you in a half hour?”
