It’s rather amusing to me that this week’s topic is going outside and activities to do outside. Why is it funny? Because of my outside activities, I managed to find a TICK walking up my arm last night. GROSS!! I don’t care if they’re all part of god’s wonderful world or any of that. GROSS, GROSS, GROSS!!
So what thing was I doing outside that caused the tick to stroll on me? I was on a walk. I’d taken the dog to the metropark for a walk while the tot went for a run. The pup didn’t go into the tall grass or roll in it, but we were outside. I love to take her to the metropark because it’s a nice, wide, gravel (limestone) path where you go can walk or run or jog or bike and it’s quiet. You can see deer and skunks and other critters. It’s quite relaxing–except when you come home with a stowaway.
It’s possible the tick came from my own yard, though. My dog likes to go out there and lie in the grass under the maple tree, so it’s altogether possible that’s where she got it. It’s possible it just decided to jump on me when I was out there sitting on the rocking chair in the shade with her. I love to move my wooden rocking chair out to the yard and sit under the tree while the dog watches traffic and the neighbors.
So being in the yard and going on walks are high on my list of outdoor activities. I like doing 5k races – I walk fast – and watching the tot run his cross country races. I enjoy going in the RV, but I don’t like just sitting when we get there. I’m not the hanging out around the campfire kind of girl. I want to be doing something – going for a hike, walking the beach, exploring the area…not just plopping down with a drink and sitting.
I used to like baseball and still enjoy going to a baseball game – when I can. I love football and enjoy going to the football games, too. I can play baseball, but I’ve never been good at football.
What about you? What are your favorite things to do outside?
