I like to think I’m not a binge watcher, but I am. I forget I have things on, though, while I’m writing and sort of binge, sort of listen, sort of ignore.

What do I listen/watch/ignore?

The initial go-to is M*A*S*H. I’m a sucker for that show. But I’ve said that before.

We have a ton of apps on the TV, but I like to go old school and watch DVDs from time to time, too. Of those, I binge Night Court. I confess. I had a crush on Judge Harry and when I was a kid, I wanted to marry him. Or for him to marry Christine. Shrugs.

Another on DVD that I turn to is Are You Being Served? I found this one on PBS years ago (I was in high school) and loved it. If you don’t know about it, here’s the general description: The misadventures of the staff of a retail floor of a major department store.

It’s a goofy show and very dated now, but that’s okay. I can handle the dated-ness right now.

Some of the more current stuff I binge is science-y (it’s a word) based and shows where I can learn something. I stumbled on Unearthed a few years ago and loved it because they deconstruct buildings and places to talk not only about how they were made, but why. I like history and if I can learn about why something happened, the better.

I also like Mysteries of the Abandoned. Again, it’s got history in it and why the place is now abandoned, but also why it was made in the first place. If you’ve never heard of the show, here are the details: Scattered around the world are long-forgotten engineering marvels, decaying cities and empty factories that once stood on the cutting edge of design and construction. Today they are discarded, dangerous, and some of them are even deadly. “Mysteries of the Abandoned” reveals why these engineering triumphs were built and how they were left to crumble.Β

Finally, the most current show I’ve binged is Genius. I started with the Albert Einstein season (season 1) because it intrigued me. I knew nothing about Einstein other than he had physics information that I still don’t understand. But I was initially snagged by the Aretha Franklin season. I haven’t watched her season, yet, as I’m trying to watch them in order–Einstein, Picasso, Aretha Franklin. I think what I like the most about this show is that they don’t put the people on a pedestal, but the don’t tear them down, either. They show them flawed and all. Here’s the general description: The life stories of history’s greatest minds. From their days as young adults to their final years we see their discoveries, loves, relationships, causes, flaws and genius.

What about you? What do you watch? Maybe you could give me some suggestions.

  1. LOL… we are sisters from another mister — I’ve watched ALL of those. We recently got Discovery+ and Mysteries of the Abandoned is there. LOVE LOVE. And, I watched Are You Being Served years ago–so much fun. We could definitely binge watch together πŸ™‚

  2. MASH is my all time favorite show ever. Oddly, I don’t binge it. Its the type of show I like to savor individual episodes. I also loved Night Court and Are You Being Served. I have soft spot for British comedy and mysteries. Great post.

  3. What a wide-ranging list! The one that most appeals to me is Are you being served? I wonder where I can watch it. Thanks a lot for these, I am saving their names. ~Lex

  4. I am not familiar with either of them, but Mysteries of the Abandoned and Unearthed both sound like very much my cup of tea. (I’m also a fan of MASH and Are You Being Served from way back — if you were also a BlackAdder fan, take a look at Upstart Crow sometime.)
